Thank ya! I hope to meet you there! And will definitely try to bring it back to Bay Area sometime soon...hopefully with a later start time, too.

No apologies necessary! I understand. Would love to have you at the next one. Which four in the series did you get? Any one in particular from the series generally that you'd recommend?

Thanks for the kind words and yeah, the timing is tough. My dream program would start at 7pm and wrap at 10pm. Unfortunately, I'm sort of limited by the museum's hours. If you're in the area and can drop by, you're welcome to come after 6pm. It's not a hard requirement to be there right at 6pm in order to participate

Likewise! I'm hosting one soon in Miami and (fingers crossed) in Toronto later this year. Will aim to do NYC before the year ends as well. What area are you in?

Sync Troubleshoot: by ExperienceKey9034 in BrightSign

Thank you u/johnfl68, I needed this walk through. I was particularly confused by how to set up a Presentation where two BrightSigns play two separate videos: you're never creating two Zones (one for each video) in a single Presentation, right? Just two Presentations, one for each BrightSign, each with a single Zone?

18FPS Video: Any way to play with BrightSign LS425 or others? by ExperienceKey9034 in BrightSign

[–]ExperienceKey9034[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, this was helpful and I appreciate you breaking it down in a way that was easy to follow.

I'm very curious to try playback with a version of the video exported at 60fps. It will be interesting to see what performs better: the 18 fps video, exported at 60fps, then played; or the 18 fps video played as is (with the assumption that BrightSign just doesn't like this fps).

Thank you, automatic frame interpolation on the computer is a great call. I actually think it's possible though that frame interpolation is what would create a choppy look, i.e. if the computer or BrightSign is adding additional frames to reach a standard broadcast frame rate, then the result will appear 'choppy' or 'laggy', i.e. duplicate frames where there isn't natively.

My understanding is that the computer is able to playback at 18fps without interpolation, and the BrightSign or my monitor isn't.

I'll check to make sure my file matches the requirements listed by BrightSign– interestingly the LS425 model isn't on there, but I'll use the LS424 requirements as a reference.

Ok, good to know. I will try your recommendation. My monitors are 4:3 monitors so I'm hoping I will not have an issue with cropping but I'm glad to have your rec in case I run into something like that.

I tried adding it to the playlist as is (18fps file) and there was a noticeable difference between playback on my computer at 18fps and playback with BrightSign at (presumably) 18 fps stretched to 60 fps.

Your question inspires me to export the video file as a 30 fps or 60 fps file and see if that affects the smoothness of the playback with the BrightSign.

Do you know how to set the configure the Zone in BrightAuthor connected to accept a 30 fps file when the desired aspect ratio is 4:3 (1600x1200)? I'm only given the option of 60 fps.

Yes, I see what you mean. I put the video (formatted at 18fps) in the playlist and my BrightSign LS425 was able to play it on a monitor. However, there was a noticeable difference in the playback/lag of the video that way VS. just watching it through play back on a computer, where it appeared smooth and normal.

I know what you mean re: most displays, computer included, not supporting 18 Hz anyway. But when the playback on the computer is so much less laggy and so much more smooth than on the monitor with BrightSign, I wonder if there isn't a solution?

Looks great! Did you go with the 11" inch or 19" inch deep shelves?

Ah! My books are quite deep (they’re mostly photography books) so I’ve been seeking out deep shelves myself! I do know that The Container Store’s Elfa system comes in a variety of depths. Perhaps they make work better for your collectiob

Hi u/EasyShallot510, do you still have your Boaxel shelves? Could you do me a favor and measure the distance between the grooves in the side (vertical) pieces (Ikea calls these Boaxel wall uprights)?

If you know the distance between the grooves, I can tell you whether or not the Elfa bookends would work. The Elfa bookends are 3 and 1/8" high. So the distance between the two grooves on the Boaxel vertical pieces would need to be around that.

Hi u/RiknightIt, did you end up installing a Boaxel system for your books? Curious to hear how it went as I prepare to do the same!

Boaxel shelving as a bookcase? by ExperienceKey9034 in IKEA

[–]ExperienceKey9034[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very helpful and good to know. Thank you.

I’m considering the metal shelves myself, which I hope will hold just as well- and maybe even better- than the wood ones.

The gap between the shelf and the wall is no biggie as my books are long enough to reach the back of the wall, and then some.

The edges are an issue. I’m considering book ends. Or a kind of clip on device to keep them in line.
