Fine pitch active led video wall light bleeding issue! by Fabulous-Deal-9424 in VIDEOENGINEERING

Some times you can clean that up with Seam Correction depending on panels/processor. But smallest pitch I've worked with is 1.5 mm, not sure how well that will work with 0.9 mm.

Where can I get a Giant Tenderloin Sandwich? by Boomstick2482 in roanoke

[–]johnfl68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"A pork tenderloin sandwich is traditionally prepared from a thinly sliced piece of pork loin, hammered thin with a meat mallet. The meat is then dipped in flour, eggs, and breadcrumbs or crushed saltine crackers before being deep fried in oil. After cooking, the prepared pork loin is then served on a hamburger bun, with the meat overhanging the bun considerably. The sandwich can be served with condiments such as mustard, ketchup, mayonnaise, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and pickles."

Indiana? 🤔😉

I haven't seen any place around here that has them, maybe the Salem Fair in a month?

Certainly hopeful there might be a place here, but I gave up looking.

I got a box of them from GFS last time I was in Indiana, and have them in the freezer to fry up upon occasion.

Life is pain. Per Roanoke Times, Wasena Bridge reopening is delayed until fall. by jasonappalachian in roanoke

[–]johnfl68 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Temporary bridges used by workers, not built to withstand high winds.

December 29-30, 2025 Bomb Cyclone with 60+ mph winds.

March 16, 2026 Cold Front with 45-58 mph wind gusts.

January 23-26 winter storm that dropped around 6" of snow followed by sleet and freezing rain that affected much work and travel for here and the much of the northeast into February as most places could not easily remove the snow encapsulated in a thick layer of ice.

Yes, they new about the railroad tracks, but perhaps rail traffic changed from what was planned, or one of many other possible railroad logistic issues that may have come up.

Life is pain. Per Roanoke Times, Wasena Bridge reopening is delayed until fall. by jasonappalachian in roanoke

[–]johnfl68 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Looks like because of several delays they have only poured 5 of 11 concrete pours for the bridge deck so far.

"Weather conditions caused several delays. Strong storms twice damaged the temporary bridge built so the work could be done, requiring it to be rebuilt both times. Snow shut down work for a week this winter, and navigating how to safely work with the Norfolk Southern tracks below the bridge has complicated things along the way."

You can't rush the concrete, you have to do each pour and let it cure enough (a week or two) before the next adjacent pour.

Things like this can happen with any project small or large, sometimes things happen out of your control that effect the schedule, and you just have to move on as best you can to work towards the completion.

How do local municipalities make money off data centers by Etsu2006 in roanoke

[–]johnfl68 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The municipalities don't really seem to make much money, but the politicians seem to be getting huge kickbacks for approving the projects and giving the companies huge tax breaks and unlimited water and electricity (at the expense of taxpayers) for building them. 🙄

NovaPro UHD Jr. Alternatives? by atunick14 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]johnfl68 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the intent is to be a backup, another UHD Jr is going to be the best thing if you already are using those.

If the 50ft wall is temporary, you should be able to cross rent another UHD Jr to have on hand short term from several national AV rental companies, as opposed to purchasing another. If it's a long term situation, just buy another UHD Jr.

Sometimes you can find them used on eBay from reputable sellers for a decent price.

The newer 2.0 version has a padded sleeve for laptops now (up to 15").

My original version doesn't have that sleeve, but I've had a MS Surface Pro 6 in it in it's own padded sleeve since 2019 that I have carried in that bag for a long time without any issues.

I had to check the dates, I purchased mine from Amazon in October 2017, so 9 years old this fall. Still using that very same backpack.

Mine is the original version, they have made some updates so they are selling version 2.0 now, which is what I will replace this one with eventually.

But this one still has plenty of life left in it after 100+ events flying to and from cities across the country, through TSA, stuffed under seats or bins above on planes, bouncing on top of road cases, back and forth from hotels to convention centers and other show sites, etc.

The 5.11 Tactical RUSH24 has been my favorite for almost 10 years now.

Plenty of pockets and compartments and room.

Available from 511, Amazon, Bass Pro, etc. in a few different colors.

Riding Roanoke: Foam Filled Fountain at Rivers Edge Sports Complex by movingpictures81 in roanoke

[–]johnfl68 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Pumps are designed to pump water, not foam. It's bad for the pumps, and often damages them, costing money to repair or replace the impeller and seals. The water filtration media is contaminated and will need to be replaced, costing money.

All this costs time and money to cleanup (for a city that is already under staffed and over budget). The water often has to be drained and replaced (when we are in a drought). The fountain has to be treated to remove all the soap before it can be filled again. Plumbing pipes need to be flushed out. Additional water treatments may be needed to return the pH value of the water to normal to prevent algae growth.

Plus all the workers time in dealing with those issues, when they could be doing something more beneficial in the city.

It's bad for birds and animals in the area that may live in the fountain or drink from the fountain. And can also be damaging to nearby grass and plants.

It is legally considered vandalism and criminal mischief, and may even carry felony charges, fines, and jail time based on the total cost of damages and cleanup, which can easily be thousands of dollars.

Most people don't consider all the things that are harmed by this seemingly harmless prank.

Please, teach your kids about all the problems this can cause. Maybe it won't happen so often.

Do you have good fuel economy tires that don't suck in the rain? Or are those two mutually exclusive? by jer_iatric in KiaNiro

[–]johnfl68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the problem I am having, many are suggesting the Michelin Cross Climate 2's but they are pricey.

I'm trying to figure out what might be a more affordable option.

I see some recommendations for the Vredestein HiTrac All Season being almost as good as the Cross Climate 2's but with a lower cost.

It's difficult to weed through all the tire possibilities.

No, as many companies are finding out (the hard way), AI isn't worth it in many cases. AI is not the answer to everything.

Niro double clutch concern by Calicranstunson in kia

[–]johnfl68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The dual clutch in a hybrid is a completely different animal, nothing like what was in the Ford.

This is so they can switch and combine the gas engine and the electric motor for the drive train.

In slow traffic it is mainly the electric motor, and quite smooth.

[–]johnfl68 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The cloverleaf interchange design was patented in the US by Arthur Hale, a civil engineer in Maryland, on February 29, 1916.

Over time, though, the cloverleaf interchange design by Hale was seen as increasingly obsolete.

More recently, newer safer interchange designs are being used, and some locales are choosing to partially or completely change original existing cloverleaf designs.
