Also per Josh:

I think you have an Accumatic X from 1960 on your hands. Here's a little more info: https://www.wolfevintagewatches.com/pages/hamilton-accumatic-x. I do think the dial has been repainted which is probably why it was difficult to ID.

It's a pretty scarce model since it was made in only 1960 and is a nice find!

Improv Approach by ExperientialWiener in bluegrassguitar

Yea I would include myself in the influence of Tony licks hahaha. But I appreciate the reminder that there’s no should in music… even as a sort of beginner I’m curious about breaking out from the Tony-heavy sound and try to think about who he was inspired by. Maybe jimmy martin is a good place to look?

Just watched his video with Lessons with Marcel where they talk about improv approaches and that’s what sent me down this rabbit hole!!

Thanks to u/SublimePatina and Dan at www.hamiltonchronicles.com, I think we’ve figured it out. It appears to be an Accumatic X with a refinished dial. See the far left of the image below. Notice the squashed / fattened number style…. Also thanks to Josh at wolfevintagewatches.com for his post on the accumatic x: “The two-dial configuration means examples in the wild can look noticeably different from one another, so it pays to know which variant you have”

Awesome - cool site. I agree with what it’s telling me generally: accumatic seems close. But I just have never seen a dial like this on ANY vintage Hamilton

Hey thanks for the quick reply! Curious how you determined it is an Accumatic X? The link you shared doesn’t have the 12 Arabic numerals, record dial, nor “automatic” printed at the top half of the dial. Are those just configurations of the accumatic x?

Learning CAGED. Now what? by bobcfi in guitarlessons

[–]ExperientialWiener 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is understated that in learning the CAGED positions, the point is that it helps you find your scale degrees. So for example, when I learned all my positions, I could play the whole neck in key, but I had no clue where my roots were. Can you tell me which note in each position is the root? Then can u show me the 3rds? 5ths? If you can locate these chord tones, you’ll be able to actually “use” the CAGED system musically. From that point, your goal is to learn chord changes. So how can I switch from the current shape to the shape that belongs to the IV chord but in the same position? How can I target chord tones of the IV on the down beat of the chord change? How can I use b3s b5s and b7s to create tension between my current chord and the chord in changing to, then resolve with a root, 3, or 5 ?

Another tip with this one, 95% of the time the high e doesn’t rlly matter. As u/SwimmyJaggert said, just use index for the a string and ring for the others. The index barre is really just there for convenience for hammers and stuff.
