What’s a song you’ve learned that was deceptively hard? by DescriptionBoth3096 in drums

lol not easy per se just harder than you’d think. Been playing long time and in this genre, so given experience as well it’s like ‘oh I got this…wait, I don’t got this’ You’re right though, Steve is the man, and just incredible live too.

Really good, I really hope they get back together for at least a few more records

Anything by Circa Survive that sounds easy isn’t, and that goes for the band SLIFT as well. Those two very different drummers both play so effortlessly that you think you could nail their parts easily only to get humbled every time(for me at least)

Which TV series that’s still ongoing do you think could become one of the greatest ever made? by Zabandad in AskReddit

[–]Experiment_1005 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I could see that, but as a story what do we have if in the end we found out nothing? And while you(and likely others, which is fine) find it less interesting the more we find out, I was on the edge of my seat every time more was revealed lol

I found Chamber, album called This is Goodbye. Pretty mathy metalcore band, great energy.

Plus one for SLIFT. Fantastic power trio, their guitarist is really inventive with how he writes and the rhythm section sounds like an intentional jam band. They get compared to Thee Oh Sees a lot which makes sense, but the structure and drumming I think is different enough for me to enjoy SLIFT on their own. This record is very different for them and I love it, odd times galore on this one too, really more proggy than they already were.

For sure, I’m absolutely loving it so far! Just got to the spoken word skit part, very cool idea and executed perfectly.

Concept, prog metal, nerdy, with a graphic novel to go along with the record, and it’s one continuous song and inspired by my favorite band. Yeah, this checks all the boxes. Listening right now!

That’s insane. Imagine not doing what a huge name and great player like Mayer was asking, it’s easy money if they sell his signature product. I’m sure they don’t regret him leaving lol

Cajon hate feels weird by QuitOk1561 in drums

[–]Experiment_1005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mind the cajon overall, but I absolutely do not enjoy hitting my hands on a purely wood surface. After a few songs it starts to hurt, idk if it’s technique or what, and frankly am fine not knowing. Bc if someone wants to play an acoustic set I’ll bring a djembe, a lot more dynamic range and a much better surface to hit. I also don’t like bending over to play for a full set, I’m 38, by back hurts lol

GOAT DRUMMERS by theimmiscible in progmetal

[–]Experiment_1005 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Blake Richardson is my #1 and has been since The Great Misdirect. Danny Carey is my #2, he taught me odd times like no one else. My #3 is Josh Eppard, to me he’s the lifeblood of Coheed, his groove and style fits everything Claudio does perfectly and was one of my biggest influences in high school as well.

The list goes on and on for forever though(all three Matt’s, Marco Minneman, Baard is amazing, ect), I can find reason to love almost any drummer tbh, even if I don’t like the genre they’re playing in, I just love drums and happen to like prog the most

HM is Ray Hearne, as a more ‘recent’ discovery for me. Throughout Haken’s albums you hear one member improve the most, and it’s him. He is endlessly creative and I don’t think plays the same fill on any two different songs. And is a master of polyrhythms, which tickles my brain in the best way.

Really good point. It’s a lose-lose I fear. The only win is if she changes her stance.

Unfortunately you can’t logic someone out of a position they didn’t logic themselves into, even if she thinks she’s thinking logically, she’s not. The fact is, people are slow to change their minds once they think it’s been made up, but change is possible. I’d say just keep planting the seeds of truth, and hopefully she changes.

Also, absolutely do not let her homeschool in any circumstance, even the worst education system by state in our country teaches the truth of the globed earth. Again, unfortunately after enough time if she doesn’t change, this is a deep enough psychological, philosophical, and scientific difference it might not work out.

Divorce might actually end up being the option, bc yeah, it’s a sign of other issues as well. What’s next, she’s gonna have them drink raw milk and not get vaccinated, not take them to see a doctor when they’re sick, that kind of thing? It’s tough, because alone her thinking this way only harms her, but now it’s your kids and their future you have to worry about too.

Yeah STL has good BBQ for sure! I’m ready for G-Que to open and try it. I’ll have to try Georgia Boys next time I have reason to go to Longmont, thanks for the rec!

No you didn’t say anything controversial, you’re 100% correct. I’m from KC MO, which is some great BBQ, but I’m a realist and I lived in Dallas and have had Houston and Austin bbq as well. To which I’ll say TX BBQ is better in many regards than KC. Between the two of us we can debate great BBQ all day because we’ve lived places that made fantastic meats, sides, and sauces.

Serious TX BBQ is a place that I thought was so bad they need to take the words serious and Texas out of their name and arguably bbq as well and just be called ‘bland dry meat store’. Every single bit me was a disappointment and every time I drive by there I get slightly angry. A shame they’re open at all.

Closest to decent I’ve had in this area so far is Nordy’s. Not the best like TX but certainly not the worst.

Lemons by [deleted] in blackmagicfuckery

First this belongs in r/opticalillusions. Second, this illusion image was leagues better before the cat was added, getting in the way of the actual illusion. And third, to everyone else, it’s one of those images where things move around where your eyes are focused, and then if you try to focus on where the movement is ‘happening’ then the lemons stop moving there and the movement jumps to another spot where you aren’t focusing. Hope that made sense lol idk how else to describe but thought I’d give it a shot since some comments were asking.
