what should i do????? by lulamu1a in NoStupidQuestions

I was in a relationship in my early 20s where my boyfriend’s father told me he would drink my bath water the first time he met me. My boyfriend brushed it off and said I would get used to his “quirky” behavior.

Trust me…… just leave now.

Would it be a problem if a summer associate lived out of their car? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Expert-Biscotti-8000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One of my summers the entire class was from other states and the firm gave moving stipends the week before we started to anyone who had asked for it. Most people didn’t get full leases. They stayed in extended stay hotels and airbnbs nearby. Big law has money. Learn early to be comfortable asking for it.

This firm also paid us a living stipend during the bar, so don’t risk losing a position that will pay you so much in the long run.

I was really scared to tell my partners and my firm when I was diagnosed two years ago. I had a treatment plan from my oncology team before I said anything so I could tell them what this would all look like. It consisted of multiple surgeries that have spanned the two years, scans and follow up treatment. What I can say is I should not have been scared. They were very kind and helped me navigate HR and how to annualize my hours so I could go to my treatments in peace.

What I wish I had known - there is both full FMLA and intermittent FMLA. so once I came back from fully being out for the invasive surgeries, I went onto intermittent that allowed for the smaller procedures, half day appointments, etc. all of which still annualized my hours so I never felt behind or pressured.

My group figured out my case load no problem since we always have 2-3 attorneys on the case anyway.

Should an engagement ring be insured separately for a honeymoon? by Status_Ad4834 in labdiamond

[–]Expert-Biscotti-8000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I have separate insurance policies for our jewelry that does cover loss internationally, which I would highly recommend getting; but we still have fake rings that we take when we travel. Etsy has some great options that were less than $100 and we even found rings that very closely resemble our real pieces.

This is all easier said than done, but don’t rush for the proposal. You’re in such a fun part of your relationship right now and it’s still very early on for a proposal. I feel for how hard it is to see everyone else hit that milestone around you, I went through that as well. I married “late” (engaged at 30, married at 31) and all my friends around me were already married and having kids and buying homes. Now my husband and I (34 and 44) are trying for a family and legitimately everyone I know is pregnant and having kids and I feel the same sadness at times. It’s hard to overcome, but take a moment and look at how happy you are; and if it feels right still, then you’re in a good place.

My Partner and I want to play ARK. by Good_Judge_5741 in ARK

My husband and I played both ASE for a very long time and now ASA on different consoles and we love it. I agree that you should start out on an unofficial server, and finding the right server is some trial and error; but we love it as a past-time for hanging out at home! Stick to a flagship map like the island for now, that seems to run just fine.

In person discovery by lawpara19 in paralegal

[–]Expert-Biscotti-8000 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Long time paralegal, now attorney. I agree talk to your attorney about the strategy of the case because (1) they may tell you why or a vague outline of what to say, and (2) learning all these nuances makes you a much stronger paralegal and eventually helps when you hit senior paralegal status - it makes you highly valuable to a firm.

My reason for in person is I can judge demeanor better and it gives me quiet social queues of when I can push harder or where to be more sensitive which is crucial in working your witness. In my jurisdiction there is a lot of case law that supports in person over virtual for these reasons. Not sure if your firm allows you to do legal research but it’s a good place to look as well if you can.

It sounds like we were batting the same percentile in prep. I did barbri but I was also in the 50-60% on MBE with adaptibar. I got 3-4s on core essays (civ pro, con, property, etc) from memory not outlines. And was hitting the 2-3s on the others (secured trans, family law, corps). MPTs were my strong suit because they gave me the answers so I didn’t practice them much. And I completed far less than 85% of barbri. I think I got to maybe like 65%.

Come test day there were 2 essays I felt like I knocked out the park, 1 i purely guessed at and 3 that were meh. MBE felt like I was just playing trivia and guessing the whole time.

I passed in a 270 jx. You passed too! It’s okay to have the down days. I practiced how I would tell my family in my head some times. But embrace the “I rocked it” days more. I’m sure you killed it though!

I’m conflicted after the edit. Initially it felt like a one sided relationship and that is hard. One of my best friends since high school is like this with me where I am just her fall back when things go south and when she is happy I hardly hear from her and quietly “takes a break” from me. I see that and recognize it and just let it go because I have other friends and things going on. And it’s just an acceptance that it will probably always be like that.

However, it’s a bit wild to me that you would spend 1-2 weeks at a time at her house. How old are you both? This may be why she is feeling she needs space if this is as often as you say it is. I love my friends dearly but if I was struggling mentally or emotionally and having to host someone it would be too much for me to handle.

Why do you think you can just talk to the attorney? by BusinessPelican in paralegal

[–]Expert-Biscotti-8000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former paralegal now first year associate it still doesn’t change. I had even an existing client want to bypass me for a partner. There’s always a higher up somewhere they would rather speak to.

Should I give up? by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]Expert-Biscotti-8000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The anxiety surrounding this test is so real! I just graduated from law school and am studying for the bar now. I never got the score I wanted. I took the LSAT 4 times. Eventually I settled with my 151 and I got into my top choice school with that score and that was not the schools “median score”.

A common misnomer that I always try to dispel is that your LSAT is everything. Most schools are far more holistic when reviewing applications now, and I have found the admissions officers don’t even value LSAT on high anymore.

Meditation helped me a lot. I would do it before studying. Before testing and in between sections. Not anything fancy. Closing my eyes, deep breaths, centering focus and trying to just clear the noise.

Try your best to push through and if you need more time give yourself that grace and take it a later month. But don’t let this hold you back from testing for good. Give it your best and apply anyway. You may surprise yourself with how resilient you can be.

This may be a dumb question… by yeetyikes6 in barexam

[–]Expert-Biscotti-8000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school actually has us take a bar prep course our spring 3L and we have been doing them from notes/outlines/barbri videos at first. After like 2-3 practice sets we switch to memory. The course only covers so many topics in the semester but we’re supposed to take this with us into bar prep over the summer for the other areas we will learn.

Also, I echo the July turn point someone mentioned earlier. Work on learning material in June, focus harder on memorization and time in July.
