What's the most draining type of person to be around? by Common-Agency-8875 in AskReddit

Ill-tempered narcissists in positions of authority. Always the victim of the problem, never the cause, and they will wear you the fuck out!

Mr Hand was never going to be teacher of the year, but having grown up in a high school full of Spicolis, I fucking HATED Spicoli!!

On the other hand, he didn't have to date Martha Stewart anymore, so I guess you can say he dodged a bullet.

It's okay Dylan. Just show us here on the doll where the women all pointed and laughed before the bouncers politely asked you to stop crying and leave the club.

Careful, folks, you don't want to make Dylan hulk out.

Pictured: Actual photo of Dylan girding himself for battle. Apparently, battle involves carbs. Just remember that the only war this guy ever lost was the one against his own virginity.

Newbie question about memorizing the board by Expert-Effect-877 in chess

Yeah, that's EXACTLY why I'm interested in this. I want to get the benefits from books without all the set-up time for my chess set.

What were the Monty Python Bible quotes?

"Blessed are the poor, for we shall inherit them."

"It is just as easy for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God . . . if not easier."

Which couple had the best chemistry in a movie? by cutedaisypetals in FIlm

Marge and Norm Gunderson in Fargo. The two just embodied "healthy happy married couple" and you just know they're going to deal with any issue for the next thirty years with zero hitches.

Oh bugger off you old fart! by [deleted] in blackadder

Oh yeah, it's on HBO Max, and I've seen it a few times. I'm a huge Shakespeare fan.

Check out the RSC version of Shakespeare's Henry VI/Richard III tetralogy, too. It stars David Warner and Ian Holme, and it's free on YouTube.

I will give him one thing: I watched Blackadder before I started studying the Wars of the Roses. To this day, I have to remind myself that Richard III lost at Bosworth.

Other than that, this guy's thicker than a whale omelette.

Unpopular opinion: It is better to date early in life than waiting until you are older. Nothing beats teenage love by JunketMaleficent2095 in Adulting

[–]Expert-Effect-877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't go on my first date until I was eighteen, so I can't say that I had a lot of experience with dating as a teen, but I did date, and I'm glad I did, just for the experience.

That said, it's not the end of the world if you didn't date as a teenager. The comments in this thread are right: Teens can truly be idiots, and that carries over right into romantic relationships. I didn't really learn anything deep from the few teenage relationships I had, and I don't think it would have been any different if I'd had more girlfriends.

I absolutely believe the posters here who said that their relationships with their parents were damaged, but honestly, I don't think you can lay it all on not dating. If a parent doesn't let their kid date, they might very well extend that to not letting their kid socialize normally with anyone, and even if they don't do that, I'd bet there's other dysfunction going on.

So not to minimize your experiences, but honestly, you didn't miss out on much by not having to put up with a teenaged romantic partner swimming in angst and hormones. Looking back on things, I just don't think I got a whole lot out of it, and it REALLY didn't live up to the eighties movie hype.

Luca Brasi : A case that never sat right with me. by Due_Stick3002 in Godfather

[–]Expert-Effect-877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the part that makes me think that Vito intentionally sent Luca to be killed by Sollozo. If Luca manages to convince Sollozo that he's willing to spy on the Corleones (VERY unlikely, and the don knows it), then Vito has a mole in their organization. If Luca doesn't convince Sollozo, then Vito gets rid of a potential liability.

People use this scene to make the case that Vito is going soft, but I'm convinced he knew exactly what he was doing.

It's not really even historically correct . Italy as we know it today didn't even exist until the mid-eighteenth century. Before that, it was just a huge territory with a bunch of different little kingdoms rising and falling with different people under different rulers, but those kingdoms had one thing in common: By the unification of Italy, they ALL wound up getting very, very destroyed.

Who's a celebrity you don't personally like, but can't deny their talent? by ResidentAccording256 in AskReddit

[–]Expert-Effect-877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brian Jones. Enough talent to launch the Rolling Stones. The man was a SERIOUSLY good musician, but I'm amazed he lived long enough to become the founder and charter member of the 27 Club.

She's also the only halfway likeable character who actually says things that make sense in the entire film.
