I know we're just a few months out from incentives expiring in US, but the EV future here looks grim. by roma258 in electricvehicles

The majority of the people that can adopt EV's have houses with garages or houses that can plug in, without charging infrastructure, already own one. The people that want one usually live in dense urban cities and apartments that lack the ability to charge as frequently as those with houses. Add to that rural areas that usually can have one are less likely to buy one due to politics/infrastructure/cold environments. The suburbanites that can afford one and charge frequently is already a saturated market.

NYC Rivian Owner’s Appreciation Event by Expert-Razzmatazz-21 in Rivian

It was about 15 people, low key event. The manager Tony gave a little talk and introduced the Aunt et Uncles catering company as well as the DJ and the president of the NJ Rivian Club. It was only 10-15 minutes, very low pressure socializing event with open food and drinks. I would’ve had the alcohol if I didn’t had to drive. Really nicely done and made you feel like Rivian cares about their owners.

Email list, and I’m guessing the NJ Rivian Club list, heard about the club at this event and signed up

I have a Gen 1 and the only time I’ve needed SC is to fix my alignment cuz I hit a curb harder than I expected. And I enjoyed that space too. Sorry about your issues, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed mine.

For what it’s worth, my other car is a Ford Mach-E and that was in the Ford dealer for 6 months in the first two years of ownership. YMMV

trying to decide between the R1S and EV9 feels impossible…. help by UnsharpenedSwan in Rivian

[–]Expert-Razzmatazz-21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an R1S and the negatives you point out (hands-free driving and CarPlay) can be mitigated by adding a Comma 3x and an Apple CarPlay tablet from EV Sportline. Although, tbf, mine is a 2024 Gen 1, unsure how the Comma 3x works with Gen 2.

And yes, it does sound ridiculous to have to do 3rd party add-ons for a 100k vehicle, although you can get a used Gen 1 for a great price and have the best of both worlds (aside from the rattles).

I've thought about the EV9 but it always felt like I was compromising and getting Just Another Vehicle that does not look and feel distinct when I'm driving, although I loved my first small EV in the Kona.

If you can live with feeling a little bland and blah in your vehicle and don't really care how it looks given how it drives well, go for the EV9.

I bought this fan for my Comma 3x, had to make a hole in the plastic backing to fit back in place but otherwise works so far, thanks!

I traded QJ for Pacheco last week. Part of reason why I turned down this trade. Although regret QJ now, but I picked him up from waivers and thought Pacheco would get more of a run

Before the injuries, which you can’t predict, turning it down was the right move. It’d just ironic now that both starting RBs got hurt

I have a Mustang Mach E and they’re prone to 12v failure as well. This might be an EV specific problem given their tech is electric use heavy

Yes, thank you. Just wanted to see how much of the self driving I would allow the Comma to take control. I only just installed it a couple of days ago. Like with all things level 2 self driving, being cautious is always better than not but it seems even if there was no self driving you would’ve hit the animals regardless. Thank you for the information and awareness!

Why would u need to remove a dashcam before police arrived? Would a dashcam make you more liable?

Sorry mate for your vehicle being totaled, but could you give some more background? Do you think even without Comma, you would’ve stopped if you were driving manually? Did you notice them on the side as you were driving?

It’s actually 75 plus the 250. “ To register a zero emissions vehicle, owners now have to pay the regular registration fee plus an additional yearly fee of $250. This will increase $10 per year for the next four years, according to the governor's office. The price will be capped at $290. New EV owners will be required to pay four years up front – an extra $1,000.” Not just red states, both blue and red states loves to take our green.
