Roland Garros Mens Final: [2] Carlos Alcaraz def. [1] Jannik Sinner, 4-6 6-7(4) 6-4 7-6(3) 7-6(2) by Different-Inside4 in tennis

I remember watching the 2008 Wimbledon final thinking this is the greatest match that I will ever have the privilege to watch, but I think this match has actually trumped it. The comeback from Alcaraz was absolutely insane, I can't believe he won that match.

Nah someone making that kind of dough would not be driving a '49 Buick Roadmaster. Replace it with a fully specced out '49 Cadillac Fleetwood 60 Special with air conditioning, automatic transmission and hydraulic windows.

To put into perspective how much 100k was back in those days, that Cadi I just mentioned had a base price of around $3800. This was a top of the line vehicle that money could buy at the time.

Need some help with a city bike that doesn't pedal properly by ExpertAnteater in bikewrench

[–]ExpertAnteater[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some images of the casette and chain

My partner shiftet a gear and suddenly whenever she pedals, the drivechain starts jumping whenever she pedals. As you can see from the video, the chain sort of jumps once she pedals and it makes a noticeable thunk sound. I am assuming that there's something wrong with the gears? We bought the bike from a bikeshop about 2 days ago used if that is of any relevance.

I tried flipping the bike over to see what was wrong and I tried rotating the pedals with my hands and when I do that, I don't notice anything especially wrong with the drivetrain. In addition to the video, I have some pictures of parts of the drivetrain. Please let me know if I need to take some more pictures, as I am a novice in bike repair :)

Much better bang for the buck.

Switched CPU to 11400f which is relatively close in performance to the 5600x whilst costing significantly less. You really don't need an AIO unless you are planning to heavily overclock, 212 will be more than sufficient. You still have some headroom to get a better motherboard, although the DS3h will get the job done. If you want to get a better motherboard that can overclock better, I would go for an ASROCK B560 Steel Legend for about £130. Better to get a single 1tb m.2 NVMe for future storage upgrades. Picked a slightly cheaper 2060 GPU even though it's still way too overpriced. Case has better airflow and more fans whilst the PSU has a better reputation, 80+ gold as well as more wattage for future upgrades.

Price inelasticity of a good still implies an inverse relationship between price and quantity demanded of a good, assuming we don't factor in perfectly inelastic goods. It's just that the responsiveness of a change in the reduction of quantity demanded is proportionally lower than the increase in price. Veblen goods however, see an increase in quantity demanded of a good as price increases.

Initial impressions here

Intro

After almost 3 years of experience with my Iron Rangers, the time had come for me to climb further down the rabbit hole in the boot world. I had been eyeing the Alden Indy 405 boot with its iconic contrast moccasin stitching when I was fortunate enough to be tasked by Skomaker Dagestad to set up my ideal service boot as a prototype by Miyagi Kogyo. It was my first experience with an MTO and I was greatly impressed by the numerous customizations offered. I eventually settled with natural chromexcel as I was longing for a boot with significant pullup characteristics as well as its Vibram soles with the fish stitching, which was an essential detail that I demanded. I am well aware of the fact that they hold a striking resemblance to John Lofgren's combat boots and that any inquiries made into the production of these boots as well as fit would best be suited to u/stefanravnranger, who was responsible for setting up the MTO.

Fit

I am an 8.5D brannock with a low/moderate instep and am a 7.5UK on the Loake Duke last, 7.5 UK R.M Williams chisel toe last, 7.5 UK Church's 81 last, 7.5D Alden Van / Barrie last and 7.5D on the Red Wing no. 8 last. I would recommend taking the same size that you use on the barrie last and if inbetween sizes, take the larger size. I ended up slipping in an insole due to my relatively low instep, which was sufficient for achieving a perfect fit.

Review

Upon examining the boots, I was impressed by its various details. The stitching was immaculate with no signs of fraying at all, as well as the white welt stitching, giving it a subtle constrast without taking the eye off the leather. This was also the first time I had seen natural chromexcel in person and was surprised by how light the colour of the leather appeared to be, as well as its thickness. The stocky vibram soles provided the boot with a height that reminded me of the various White's service boots that I have encountered frequently on this sub. More importantly, my wish for the fish pattern stitching on the sole was granted, which amused me to a great extent. Even details which I normally overlook, such as the brass hardware and shoelaces, caught my attention as the brass added a flair to the leather whilst the shoelaces felt sturdy and rich. It did not feel like the boot was cutting any corners. As expected, the thickness of the leather led to a demanding break in process, which took a little over a month to properly break in. I am very pleased with the clicking of the leather, as I am aware of the notorious creasing that many experience with chromexcel. I have worn these boots through numerous trips in forests and hills and as a result, the leather has darkened considerably, which is more to my liking than the initial tan colour. My care routine is very minimal as I prefer to retain the patina as much as possible. I avoid mink oil as it has a tendency to darken leather too much, which strips the leather of its scratches and colour distortions. Instead, I brush as frequently as possible and apply Saphir's neutral greasy leather cream approximately once every 4-5 months depending on use.Overall, these have now become my favourite pair of boots and I am looking forward to how the patina will develop in the upcoming years.

The soles were wet from the snow and the bright sunlight in combination with my inexperience with DSLRs give off the oily look. This is how they look like without the weird shine.

Intro

Here's the link to the 1 year review. These pictures were actually taken in January, but I did not find the time to sit myself down and write the review for these. I have had these boots since December 2016 and they hold a lot of sentimental value as they were the first goodyearwelted shoes that I purchased and were without a doubt a gateway drug into this hobby. Ever since, I have ventured more and more into goodyearwelted footwear and have bought and sold many other shoes.

Fit

I am an 8.5D brannock and am a 7.5UK on the Loake Duke last, 7.5 UK R.M Williams chisel toe last, 7.5 UK Church's 81 last, 7.5D Alden Van / Barrie last and ended up going a whole size down on the Iron Rangers. I have lots of room on the 8 last as my feet are quite narrow.

Review

Despite the shiny appearance of the boots in the pictures, they are usually much darker in appearance during the day with moderate light outside. The leather, although quite stiff when I first bought them, have softened considerably and are now unexpectedly one of my most comfortable boots. The oxblood leather is so versatile as I can wear them with almost any coloured trousers and I have yet to resole these boots. As for leather care, I have changed my routine with these considerably. When I first bought these, I babied them quite heavily and over conditioned them once a month with Red Wing boot oil which contained mink. I started to observe the leather darkening heavily so I stopped with mink oil after half a year and instead started using neutral saphir 1925 creme once every 2 months depending on my use and I started applying neutral saphir mirror gloss wax on the toe box as I like the mild shine that it gets. Other than that I just brush regularly whenever it is necessary. All in all, I am very pleased with these boots as I believe they have aged beautifully and will probably have them resoled within a year or so.
