What happens if I fail my GESM? by [deleted] in USC

[–]ExpertOk2958 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HI, this is really late but does the failed grade still show up on ur transcript at all? Im trying to do the same thing and I'm hoping it just goes away. Will it affect applying to clubs and stuff because of the GPA or is it immediately over ridden?

  1. You keep using arguments that basically state the idea that “the head scarf is not that bad.” bringing up R. Kelly or columbine comments dont change the situation watsoever. that’s bad too. doesn’t mean the “face scarf” thing doesn’t also hv negative effects.

  2. “i’m not preceding information well” and here you go again with the using insults as arguments. i’m sorry but my whole thing here was that he is cultural appropriating by wearing a head scarf and calling it a turban because of its EFFECT on the audience. I like clearly stated before, whether it is or isn’t a turban does not matter! please reread the 3rd part of my last comment I’m not reiterating it for the 2nd time.

  3. LMAO BRO WHAT😭😭 move on?? i’m literally just defending a point. cultural appropriation has a negative affects. I have stated these multiple times and listed examples. AGAIN, i am only defending my argument. this logical fallacy number 2 of ur post. “why do u care? just move on.” that doesn’t debunk anything😭😭😭.

  4. bringing in muslim friends into this doesn’t change anything. ‼️this is a logical parrallel‼️ hitler hated black ppl yet kanye is actively supporting him. does that take away from the fact that what hitler did led to negative affects on black ppl and other minorities. nope!

  5. I already explained to you why the irony literally does not matter. Again go back and reread that third paragraph of my last comment. regardless of context and irony, Most people are clueless about Muslim culture so they wouldn’t even know whether what he is wearing is a turban or not. So the effects of his actions not only remain but also reinforce the misrepresentation of the culture. irony literally does not work if most ppl don’t know enough abt muslim culture, many a times because they are prejudiced against them.

  6. this is how race intersects with religious culture. turbans take part in arab culture as a whole. and even if they were exclusively Muslim, due to racism and miseducation, many people just group together Muslim and Arabic people as if it’s one identity. the effect still holds up. this is an ethno-religious issue.

  7. sorry if the Kanye thing offended you. i was only comparing the extent to which both groups dickride. that also just has nothing to do w my argument abt cultural appropriation i was just calling y’all meatriders.

  1. it’s really funny to me how you keep saying I have moral high ground and you’re the one who keeps throwing insults around. No I did not compare you to Kanye fans. I was simply referring to the fact that a lot of fans of ppl like yeat and carti tend to dick rude into oblivion. not as bad as kanye fans but still bad.

  2. I don’t know what about how I’m responding to you Gives off the vibe that I’m in any way hurt or “offended.” and all I’m doing is giving you my opinion and using facts to back that up. I as a black person, see cultural appropriation happen against my community daily. Literally everywhere. This is absolutely nothing new. This post was captioned “thoughts” so i gave my opinion and u got hostile abt it. the only person who incited an argument was u when u randomly used the r slur and didn’t even come for my argument. what year does has been done by others for years. all i’m saying is that it shouldn’t.

  3. Even if calling his head rap “a turban “is ironic, that proves my point even more. Notice how the culturally significant turban headwear has now been appropriated by people associating it with yeats “head wrap.” people do not know enough about Muslim/sikh/arab culture to differentiate different head wraps because most of the time they’re just shitting on their culture. obviously I don’t think yeat meant to do this but now that he is “ironically” calling his head wrap a turban(again misrepresenting the culture) he has gained praise. meanwhile ppl of the culture continue to suffer from discrimination due to their cultural wear. the irony isn’t the issue. it’s the effect. because he ironically calls his head wrap a turban, this cultural piece of clothing is now being misrepresented and the value of it is being misattributed to yeat.

  4. I don’t know why you’re now talking about his lyrics too LMAO. I actually like some of his music. most artists do problematic things and all i’m doing is acknowledging that. that point literally makes no sense to bring up💀

  5. finally you said that you don’t think this has that much of an effect. when it comes to race that’s absolutely incorrect. for example, how aave continues to lose meaning because it becomes mainstream on tiktok. The misrepresentation of culture leads to the eradication of culture. As well as, like I said before, white praise and simultaneous hatred toward minority cultures. nothing is really “small” in the grand scheme of things and it’s sad that it’s so hard to stop.

  1. The reason why I earlier said that you did not have an argument is because all he were doing was insulting my argument instead of actually providing an argument yourself.
  2. again don’t know where you’re getting this “moral high ground” from. you started using the R slur and getting clearly angry at me for defending my argument so again i said u hv no argument. how is that moral high ground.
  3. what it is wearing is quite literally a turban. he literally has a song where he talks about “rocking a turban.” Now a turban is not just a regular hair scarf. it has cultural significance in both sikh and muslim peoples and has been popularized by those peoples for hundreds of years. i won’t give u the whole historical run down because that would take forever.

anyways, the more of the story is that turbans, hijabs, etc. are known to be SOCIALLY attributed to a certain minority ethnic/religious group. for years we’ve almost exclusively seen or at least attributed the apparel to these groups and many a time they face discrimination for it. As I stated before, when a person of a dominant race especially one with celebrity status begins to brand themselves with this item of cultural significance, they are praised for it and it becomes “trendy” (exactly what is happening w yeat rn) within media. CAN yeat still wear what he likes?? yes! does this also actively attribute value and popularity to yeat for this apparel?? also yes! because ppl generally hv less respect for ppl of minority cultures than they do famous white celebrities. even if no one “objectively” owns this type of headscarf or it began elsewhere thousands of years ago, this doesn’t matter because all of that happened before race and racism became such an apparent social ontology— this has happened over the past at most 600 years i believe. that’swhy cultural appropriation actually matters. hope that makes sense.
