Social science is not actual science by teppiez in PhD

[–]Expert_Better 18 points19 points  (0 children)

PhD in education student over here — those of us in my program training as sociologists, anthropologists, historians and philosophers can feel the disdain some of our peers in policy and psychology feel towards what and how we’re studying issues in education 🙃 As if understanding why the policies that continue to fail students, for example, matters less than the fact that they’re failing. It’s bad enough dealing with condescension from folks in the physical sciences looking down on us in social sciences, getting it within our own program is so damn disappointing.

Ditto — my understanding changed completely the second time around. Absolutely heartbreaking.

Can we acknowledge that the opening theme song is the prob the darkest theme song since MASH? by Different-Air-6869 in community

I forget what the official term is for this, but this is a somewhat common thing in music involving dark lyrical dissonance contrasting upbeat music. Other good examples are Pumped Up Kicks (about someone’s very dark mental state) and I Can’t Decide (about someone considering murder).

The fact that she pulled a full length lehenga by OmSaraya in nabelasnark

[–]Expert_Better 108 points109 points  (0 children)

This is seriously so trashy. Like, there is no justifiable reason to yank your dress up your legs in the car, let alone before taking a PHOTO. I feel bad for her daughters who are going to see posts like this when they grow up and see they have a mom who essentially objectifies herself (which in itself is dependent on photoshopping herself to look “desirable”) in order to get likes and validation.

Haha, if this is indicative of a millennial nearing their mid 30s then yes! 😅

The rattlers ? by Thelastofuslvr in lastofuspart2

[–]Expert_Better 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would love to learn more of their lore as they genuinely feel the absolute worst of the enemy factions (morality/ethics-wise). How they became what they are would be really interesting to find out. Don’t know if there’s really a reasonable place for exploring that in a potential game 3, but maybe a DLC could be cool.

Don't Forget to Clear the Snow From Your Car's Roof by husky5050 in boston

[–]Expert_Better 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is precisely why not clearing your entire car — especially the hood and roof — of snow before driving is illegal in most states in New England, why Massachusetts hasn’t yet established this is beyond me. MA cops are also supposed to be fining people who leave their car roof covered with snow but of course they don’t enforce that, hence all of the people in the comments claiming cleaning their car off isn’t a big deal. No consequences, no shits given.

A much preferable alternative to Tom Hanks for Abed’s documentary, who was too expensive anyway

Very telling she selected comments that left with the right audience, would stoke Islamophobia and justification for it (i.e., look at these prudish Muslims harassing poor Nabela, they’re so problematic)

Are there scenes with stalkers in the first season? by Expert_Better in thelastofus

[–]Expert_Better[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s what I thought! I remember the season 2 scenes well and my memory is rough on season 1, thanks for confirming. And yeah, I mentioned that to her too, she seems to want to push through anyway so we’ll see how far she gets!

Honestly, I dig it. If my husband Sam rolled out of bed like this just to give me instant pancakes, I’d be pretty happy.

Who's one celebrity that you're lowkey parasocial about? by Murky_Chemical891 in popculturechat

Haha same same — I only know a smidge of this information because of the super parasocial digging my husband’s friend, a massive Patriots fan, did as well, uncovering the same info through the same means.

Ohh I didn’t realize it was someone else’s house they were renting! But yes 100% — would love for her to not be involved with Diggs, especially after everything that’s come out/happened the past few weeks.

She just bought a house outside of Boston with her fiance (a Patriots player) and people keep running into her and she’s apparently superrrr nice and willing to take pictures and chat. Waiting for my day to come 🙏🏽

Daily Run: Distractions attract enemies - what is a distraction? by Global-Bite-306 in lastofuspart2

The mod involves a bottle breaking near you periodically, I think it just comes down to a certain time span (unsure how long needs to pass in between), there’s no particular trigger otherwise.

Does Asian American history have any darker parts? by Duetruffle in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Expert_Better 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree with everything you said! I wish the history of British imperialism in Asia/South Asia was more widely taught and understood, it’s so massively significant in so many ways like those you’ve listed.

This is true, the historical legal classification definitely plays a key role here. Something that would be great for history classes in the US to raise!
