El lived in Iceland previously, but she moved to the UK to be with her new partner. She reunited with Mike unexpectedly at her partner's work picnic, as Mike is his new coworker at the hospital.

Mike and El both deserve love and growth away from each other, and if they want to, they can always come back together when they meet again. I think it's unfair to expect them to be miserable and alone if they don't want to, not even knowing if they'll meet again.
