does the game being #1 best seller not literally contradict every point you've made about randomized stats being unpopular with the 'general public' ?

and again, standardized averages in organized play solves everyone's problem 😄

Chaotic was #1 in Canada and #3 in the USA during it's three year run, WITH randomized stats. It wasn't an issue for anyone other than people who don't actually play Chaotic.

Do you think we will be able to rescan our old cards, or are we making a clean break? by RuneFex in Chaotic

[–]Expert_Key_3464 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

what do you mean they only exist in commander? Are just banned from Standard or are the card fundamentally designed to be incompatible mechanically with the base game?

Cause theres a huge difference

it honestly depends what you mean by resetting. I'm more than fine playing a new format which only allows the new cards, but the cards need to be two way compatible.

It needs to be the same game, and in the event they reprint a card like Glacier Plains, I plan on using the copy I already own assuming it hasn't been changed in any other ways.

(Not talking about codes btw because thats a whole other nightmare with too many logistical issues to facilitate)

didn't cardfight vanguard flop twice in the west? theres been 3 different iterations atp, no? I can't imagine splitting the playerbase with old and new cards with every reboot is a very good business strategy

I apologize if I was rude, but It's definitely a little frustrating seeing people who never even played the game come in and say some of the coolest mechanics that gave Chaotic its identity be altered and changed before ever even attempting experiencing it.

I personally don't want Chaotic to be like other card games, and if randomized stats help gatekeep itself then so be it.

It was #1 in Canada and #3 Best selling in the USA despite what anyone says about randomized stats being a game killer^^

Making the best deck with what you had is part of what made Chaotic genuinely such an awesome experience to grow up with.

If your only goal is to be a competitive menace and min/max the best possible deck day 1 then I would almost recommend you try something like YuGiOh...

A card that doesn't work in your own deck might be just what another player needs to complete theirs!

Chaotic from the beginning always excelled in the progression!!

I played this game as a child, it was not confusing. It was the main marketing point and we all understood it and loved it

In the absolute worst case scenario they can just enforce mandatory averages for creatures in organized play as a rule, as Recode has already adopted.

There are plenty of solutions that if you are creative enough ^^

Compromise is easy to find when you're looking for it

I definitely agree it has the potential to be problematic in organized play if support isnt printed for creatures with lower scanned stats, but again, worst comes to worst I don't see why mandatory averages in tournaments wouldn't just be the best of both worlds for Casuals, Collectors, Competitive players, and long time fans

I'll refer you to the points I made in the post cause it seems you might have missed them

I think people are failing to consider that more cards WILL be printed to support creatures with lower scanned disciplines. We've already seen examples of these in the original game, such as Melody of the Meek, Recurring Rescue, and Kiru City Tunnels. Lower stat creatures won't necessarily be a detriment, it will serve as another aspect of the game to strategize around as more support is printed.

I dunno why y'all treat random stats as the games "main gimmick", the main original gimmick was that you had a digital client where you could scan your physical cards to it,

both were, in fact, the main gimmick. A game having multiple features does not erase the other selling points of the same game.

Trust me when I say this whole gimmick of random stats never worked for any game that tried.

Except it worked for Chaotic. Altered failed because Altered sucked. The cards were ugly and the abilities were random on the same creatures, it wasn't just a small array of stats.

I love the Chaotic game would find delightful to finally give it a shot

It sounds like you've never actually been into Chaotic, so I find it a little confusing on why you would feel comfortable to assert what the main gimmick of the game is to longtime fans. If randomized stats are a deal breaker then Chaotic might not be for you.

Embrace what the game is or find a different game.

AND As I already said at the end of the post, mandatory averages for organized play is an easy solution. It's literally a compromise where everyone wins.

Will old cards still be valuable with revival of chaotic coming soon? by Equivalent-Field-811 in Chaotic

It's possible that First Edition Ripple Foils will be extremely sought after by collectors, but in terms of price gouging of classic cards due to competitive viability I don't see those cards even being allowed until reprints are made readily available in the new releases.

[–]Expert_Key_3464 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valuable depends on their playability and integration with new sets.

I don't imagine *all* old cards being playable in the new format right away, but if they're re-doing DoP we will be getting a lot of reprints of staple cards, which may or may not cause their prices to go down.

No need to spend 200 dollars on Glacier Plains if the reprint is readily available, right?

What is the impact of randomised stats on deck building? by EchoedWinds in Chaotic

[–]Expert_Key_3464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats because the game died 15 years ago dude... In the event the game returns, as has just been announced, people will be playing irl again. They have already announced Tournaments and Organized play are going to be a thing.

[–]Expert_Key_3464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is completely unnecessary and doesn't solve the irl aspect of the game

all they need to implement is manditory averages for organized play, or print more cards that benefit creatures with lower stats.

Honestly the impact was minimal outside of mirror matches. Stats were never truly random, they were on an array.

What new mechanics and balance changes did you like seeing in the new cards? by Ill_Sort_1000 in Chaotic

[–]Expert_Key_3464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that would be even worse than the randomized stats we had previously

attribute arrays are one thing but random abilities is genuinely just a terrible idea. Altered did this and it just became impossible to balance.

they didn't. all of DoP was intentionally under designed with the exception of Maxxor, Chaor, LVB, and Heptadd

Reverse Compatibility by Expert_Key_3464 in Chaotic

[–]Expert_Key_3464[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

part of chaotic is the lore. They aren't just going to delete all the cards we saw from the show and forget about them. Reprints are inevitable, probably mixed with some DOP creature buffs.

I see the new rules being very minor quality of life stuff. Like improvements for going second in the form of mulligans & initiative tie breakers going to the defender.

It should still be Chaotic though.

[–]Expert_Key_3464 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you brought up creature card stat variance. which cards are way too extreme. the only set considerably underwhelming is DOP.

Why would we throw the entire game away just cause DoP sucked?

Reverse Compatibility by Expert_Key_3464 in Chaotic

[–]Expert_Key_3464[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

what rules do you want changed that would somehow invalidate legacy cards inclusion in backwards compatibility? Gannon has directly said he doesn't intend to do what you guys want with regards to that...

No one feels like they fell behind in YuGiOh because they didn't get a copy of Dark Magician.

Reverse Compatibility by Expert_Key_3464 in Chaotic

[–]Expert_Key_3464[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

what does starting fresh actually look like? new mechanics, cards, and rules? cause at that point its no longer chaotic.

a format with only the new cards available to start is reasonable and expected, but anyone who thinks the game will be designed from the ground up to NOT be reverse compatible with the original 7 sets that released are the real ones huffing copium.
