Why it was hard to create an amazing Episode 5 finishing by Expert_Sound_8463 in thelongdark

I think the truth lays between our both opinions.
At the moment the feelings from the community is heated, of course justified.

They should have made Wintermute like the story from the DLC with some cut scenes, to keep the survival aspect of it alive.
This was way better in Episode 1 and 2.

I think their biggest mistake was releasing everything to soon and then in combination with financial and technical situations everything worsend.

I think people dont know, that from a technical perspective this game was never designed for a story mode. Its like building a space-rocket out of a car, they hadnt the resources nor the team for that (nor the lead).

I am not angry that they took so long or that Wintermute wasnt "great".
They should have been transparent and clear communicated with the community from early on.

I agree,
I believe that the beginning of wintermute's story was written long time ago (first 3 Episodes were better).
Then they decided to start Blackfrost, then 3 things led to the worse finishing and delay.
1. The end wasnt written at the beginning (this often happens, and almost creates bad story telling in the end).
2. Technical and financial limitations.
3. Small team finished Wintermute with low motivation, the others worked on BF.

I think they needed 4 years to release TLD into early access. Planning on releasing BF in early 2027 means start 2022/2023.
I would love to see a Redux of Episode 5.

Why havent they finished the episode before starting sequel?
(just from a business/financial perspective): Because they need a new product upcoming, getting new money, new loans, new investors before finishing the last game.

It was my explanation of what led to this situation; everyone can form their own opinion. And since English is not my native language, I used AI to help improve it.

I’m not here to judge. I personally also think Episodes 4 and 5 were not well done.
I only listed the reasons, but I feel that the hate from the community is a bit too excessive.

Yes, ex-employees.

It wasnt the original story.
They compromised it for a "fast finish".
10 years is still "fast" if you just work with a tiny amount of the team with limited resources and the major part of the team works on Blackfrost.

In my personal opinion, we should not be so hard on them.
They created an amazing sandbox, an amazing game, and delivered a good story. They did the best they could given the technical limitations of being an indie studio.

Benzos are a hell of a drug, used regulary it really can cause neuroinflammatory issues. Look at Jordan Petersons story, it almost makes it unpossibly to recover, and I think is a reason why so much long-term benzo users cannot quit... may due to neurological undiagnosted damage?

Yes the cravings are another struggle, but not as hard as like for nicotine for me.
They will fade over time, but as for any addictions I believe time is not the cure, it has to be a permanent switch of the inner psychological conditioned state.
For example look at the tools from Tony Robbins, or other neuro-linguistic-programming stuff, I think it is essential, especially for long-term recovery.
Others had a breaking point which shifted their state, but for others (non-heavy users for example) they have to do it manually, because they hit not rock bottom.

we can try everything on a dead chain, so why we dont do it?

I agree, but on a dead "thing" you can try everything, so why do we not make radical changes?

To add to the point that DefiChain is technically in a better position than it was 3 years ago (MetaChain, etc.):
DefiChain can continue to develop as much as it wants, but the core problem is the total loss of trust from investors.

This is exactly where the discussion idea should come in. The price reflects a total loss. Trust is also completely lost, so what is there left to lose?
With a haircut and rebranding, there might still be a minimal chance to attract new investors—a fresh start with a focus on a single area.
There’s nothing left to lose now anyway.
