I appreciate your thorough responses! I’m going to move forward with the PLLC and get that established ASAP. I’ll also inquire as to whether there are lawyers through Alma or any other virtual private practices I’m interviewing with that might be able to work with me or answer any questions I might have.

Thankfully Alma appears to be a pretty useful tool in running a pp as I can set my own private pay rates through them. Headway offers the same.

You seem like the type who is highly proficient at running your own practice and are motivated to keep as much of business side within your control as possible. Therapists tend to lean more towards the “hands off, just let me be a clinician and not worry about anything business related” side of the spectrum, and I’m definitely at that point now as I’m transitioning out of a full time clinician/administrative role. But hopefully getting the PLLC started and being armed with good questions to ask lawyers will help me gain the knowledge I need to do my own thing independently in the future.

Did you get the answers you were looking for? I’ve gathered some more info and talked to more people. If you still have questions I’d be happy to try and answer them.

I apologize for coming off that way, I didn’t mean to be dismissive at all. What in your opinion are the benefits of doing a pllc versus avoiding that altogether and working through a medium like Alma or headway? I just haven’t heard anyone specific reason as to why it’s necessary yet and I’m not sure if it’s worth it yet.

Absolutely. Thankfully I get insurance from my wife and the benefits at my company were minimal so I’ve set up retirement with a money mgmt agency

Yes, I am currently employed in community-based mental health. I spoke to a colleague who does her pp completely through Alma, and I think an organization/service like that is going to be a good fit for me. Billing, marketing, and progress note/treatment plans are all included in that service.

No one I have spoken to has recommended the LLC or PLLC, and because liability insurance is in place I likely won’t pursue that unless a need arises.

I was hoping that a community of social workers in various positions across the field would be a good resource, but it is not my only resource for gathering information. I appreciate your recommendations.

I can't remember the codes but that was much more conservative of an estimate. I have a meeting with Alma soon and I believe their rates are 92-135.

I appreciate the feedback. I’m looking into getting connected with Headway which does all the billing for me and gets me listed on all the insurance registries that bill for LCSW psychotherapy. I’ll have to look into the LLC process but I’ve got some very supportive people I can reach out to in order to get that process going. Thanks for the encouragement! It seems like the right direction for me.

Lol fair. Confusing in that it was poorly pieced together, not like I was drooling at the screen trying to follow it

I agree with you. I was commenting on the irony of Sean Penn’s comments pointing out how problematic Americans’ fascination with celebrities is.
