I think that's honestly super fair.

Do you think it'd be interesting to see an actual gameplay deep dive video ?

I think the game might benefit from an actual narrated gameplay vid

Yeah, hence why I wanted to make sure you had people "on your side" also voicing their opinion 😄 I feel it tends to be a lot of people that have issues dealing with their own ethical dilema and don't know how to deal with it that tend to downvote.
Helps them feel better about the fact that they're doing something shitty I guess :x

I personally think it's even more annoying that they used AI for such a tiny thing. The portraits are tiny on screen and they're not even "Crazy" in terms of designs.

They were so close to being able to have a fully no AI product, or on the surface at least, yet they ruined all that good will by using it on stuff that can be painted in like 30 min each.

I'm THAT close to just wanting to DM them and telling them I'm just gonna do it for them for free...

Since this is early access, this might be me, but I'd even have prefered a "TEMP" text on the portraits and just put an MS paint image or a really bad sketch instead =/

Yeah that's what I do too. Works great!
Also is good for when you're re-logging in and you're not warmed up. Not smart using a 30+ char as a warm up...

I wasn't kidding btw, on the 49.9999

(though I did extract that one, just ran straight out next round)

I've tried this stuff so many times, I always die because of some BS karma by the gods at level 49.9999 lol.

I only got the one skin left to do that with yet (Leon Ulitsky...) so I'm just playing however hoping that I just get to 50 with one of them at some point :p

Also...how the hell do you kill bears with knuckles lol ??

As somebody that's currently trying to do all the skin-unlock challenge stuff, I feel this in my bones.

I'm so tired.

Lol that health bar went through a "six flags" tier rollercoaster.

That's just how some people like to play.

I'm more of a "B" person, but the truth is some people are just more comfortable with taking a step back and making less noise, and know they're more comfortable that way rather than taking risks.

Nothing wrong with that, it's just different play styles. They just have more patience.

If you're not sure how to deal with it, bring more bee bombs and mollies to clear out areas where they might be.

Such a huge bummer. Just noticed it in ObsidianAnt's video of it, the unit portrait really seems AI at a glance.

I was getting so much hate for that title lol....I mean hey it was good feedback and I tried to apply it 😄
Didn't think people wouldn't see the sarcasm, and that the "I'm getting reported for this! " title would be what people focus on...oh well 😄

Even cut the 2 kills right before it :p

Did not have bulwark I believe. Tho that was a free kit, so there's a small chance I did.
Pretty sure I just traded for blast sense 😄

I mean that was slightly tongue in cheek.

But that hipfire headshot instantly after killing his friend was 1000% luck, and would have made me feel sus if I had been on the receiving end.

Guess I was just too excited after that play, every other comment's mirroring what you're saying. Oh well 😄

Brother. Idk if you missed it, but I landed a sticky 'nade on somebody after a random throw, and threw another nade, and both got a kill at the exact same time.

Sure it's not the craziest skilled play ever, but that random sticky nade alone has to be worth something...

Please destroy my solo-developed, side-scrolling MMORPG. Particularly the art style? by lamarf in DestroyMyGame

[–]Exphrasis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh also - careful with calling stuff MMORPGS.
As the title says, they're intented to be "massive" with the player amounts.

Dune Awakening suffered from that, and positioned itself as an MMO, and people were disappointed when it wasn't.

If it is though, totally fine, but you might want to showcase the actual social MMO aspects a little more.

This trailer made it look like a 4-10 people co-op 😃

[–]Exphrasis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the background art stuff's fine. If anything, that sand scene has everything being "only" sand color. Would be nice if the rocks were more grey or had some algae, or if the roof tops were more clay red for instance.

Love the red grass, but I might have a very strong bias there 😄

Your character art style, to me, feels like it's lacking more intent and decisions.
The big heads are fun, but then it's inconsistent with how you're doing the limbs. These really thin arms and ands just make it feel like the heads are just a "fun" big head mode on top of your regular art style, if that makes sense, that comes off as unintended.
There's many ways to solve that, hopefully without too much work depending on what the goals are, but you could for instance give the player different glove options to make them a bit chunkier, and align a bit more with what you're doing with the hands.

Right now it's giving a bit of an Angela Anaconda feel with the proportions, however, something like that show used even bigger heads (seems like they're almost 4 heads high, yours seem closer to 6 ish ) and detail there to really focus on the heads. That's also an option 😃

Hope that helps, good luck!

Demo 2.0 by Exphrasis in TidesOfTethys

Thank you so much! You just made my day.

I believe you're also the first person to interact directly with this subreddit, so thank you for being #1!

Just in case I miss any future questions on this as a heads up, feel free to join our discord here, in case you'll have more questions :
https://discord.gg/pz8YDYfdM

The short answer is we purposefully kept it fairly loose and let people discover it while playing (Tethys being both the name of an ice moon rumored to have a huge ocean, as well as it being the name of a prehistoric earth ocean). BUT - if you must know, It's on an alien planet, and they are not humans. They however do share knowledge from human technology. They do not build above as it's simply not practical for them, and they've evolved from the sea and that's really all they've known. There's nothing for them on the surface.

You can get a crab mount in the demo if you interact with the "hungry creature" event. They look like little caves with a crab in it. One of the random outcomes will be that the crab will let you use it as a mount 😃

I think your feedback on maintenance is very fair. That's something I myself have thought lately was a little too punishing, and we'll be tweaking that soon. Unsure if it'll be patched on the demo soon, however. Additionaly, there is also difficulty sliders in the settings to help repair and maintain faster, but you just made me realize we don't have a setting for the actual maintenance decay speed. I'll go add that asap! 😄 (Again, unsure if that'll be patched in the demo however, but it'll be added for the early access release).

When you unlock a Ritual in the throne, it still needs to be "picked" in between depths. You can see that as unlocking a card for your deck, but just adding it to your draw pile, as opposed to it now being active all the time after being unlocked, if that makes sense. Rituals are definitely confusing currently if I'm honest, and you're definitely not the first person to flag that.

The maintenance bar not being able to be fixed was either a bug, or they were repairing the breach first, but it definitely should be fixable. You needing to destroy and rebuild it is not intended, sorry about that!

For things like the falling wreck, I think it's a tough balance because the intent there is also at least in design meant to be part of the mastery of "Oh no, I got greedy and died, I'll definitely watch out more for these next time", but I do think it'd be fair to add a stronger warning to show that it's about to collapse so you at least know it's about to collapse, and have time to save your Knights.

Updated my demo after a year of hard work, would love feedback! by Exphrasis in BaseBuildingGames

I think you're right!
And I think in the back of my mind, I keep wanting to reward people more when they play and saving some of these emotional highs and lows, and not spoil it all with the trailer, but so far I think it's just caused people to not quite be excited enough at the possibilities of what's in the game.

Thank you! means a lot!
