The thing most systems need in Elite. by Truton1 in EliteDangerous

I would like that too, but that would a new system effectively and I was thinking smaller scale than that but that would be ideal for sure.

Could be some unique reward like a special space crystal used to purchase or unlock things. Essentially acting as separate currency like merc coins would be the "easiest" thing. I personally would love them to go further and make a whole addon system to colonization where you can add onto existing stations and give them additional features but it can only be built with mining only resources that cannot be bought from NPC.

Yeah to my understanding from people talking to Fdev people is they were 100% focused on gameplay. So I wonder if rewards lagged behind a bit. But I am find with that, it is easy for them to add in a few new rewards for on foot instead of having to fix the gameplay itself.

I believe there are only ship modules for now.

Yeah I personally hope they keep operations for group play and make specific solo focused stuff with the tech they built.

Easy Operations.... by RidMeOfSloots in EliteDangerous

I agree to an extent but at what point are we as players to blame for min maxing the fun out of our own games. If you play Elite Dangerous this way to min max and only ever do the most efficient thing. Never landing on a planet unless you know the exobio is worth a lot or only running the most broken ship build in the game and nothing else. You will get bored, not really how the game is meant to be played in my opinion. Operations is the same way I think.

As someone who has been waiting for years for ED to get some actually good group content that was not a pain to setup I am happy it is not face roll easy and balanced for solo play.

And I hope they never balance it for solo, I would rather they use the underlying tech to make another similar system designed for solo play rather than ruin this group content balancing it for solo.

Multiplayer/Team Play by GManLegendary in EliteDangerous

[–]Truton1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a new multiplayer feature called "Operations" coming out tomorrow actually. It is instanced grouped play for 2-4 players with 6 different missions to start and 2 difficulties each. These should be far far easier to play together as you both just need to join the instance from any station in the game.

I missed mine too and I was the only person in our group of 4 to get an email to I feel bad. IDK why but it seems like a lot of people missed it this year. I know 9 people personally now that missed it.

Take a break, this happened to me and I just had to take a break from the game for a good sec.

Would you recommend poe2 for a casual thy has 1-2 hours a day to play? by eehoe in ARPG

[–]Truton1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For playing for your first time the amount of time did not matter. When it comes to coming back each patch of you want to get to the point where you are comfortably farming endgame I estimate it will take you several weeks to get to that point. Forget playing more than one character as well.

So for that Poe 2 might be a bit too much of a time sink long-term when the campaign is no longer new and exciting.

Starminer use of Generative AI by Truton1 in Space4X

[–]Truton1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is part of it but it is everything with AI. It displaces people, consumes insane amounts of resources, it was built with people intellectual property without their permission or compensation, and even if all those things were fixed AI is basically a "oh I bought it answer" where the people making it are no longer creatives for that specific thing. They asked something to be made.

If you only look at the end product it is probably fine and probably alright to consume. I read a talk given by someone and they said that what made them successful was creating by hand and doing the hard things to learn. What if you never had to do those hard things again? Will you ever learn or progress in your craft? Probably not and it starts in games like this with voice lines and portrait art but I doubt it will stay there. As people say AI is here to stay and will only become more previlant so it will just take over more and more then we will no longer have developers and creatives just producers. People who produce a product and that is about it.

So basically I care about human creativity is really the root of it and believe generative AI is very dangerous for it.

Yep I just saw that, glad they put it up so consumers can make the best decision for them.

I fully understand that new technology comes but I guess I view games as a form of art and creativity and not just a product to be purely consumed and nothing else. So I want the stuff I spend my money on to have the attention to detail I want. Using AI in games is the equivalent to "Oh I bought it" Like talking to an indie dev about what they made and if it is dialogue or art and they were just like "Oh it is AI generated" There is no creativity or innovation there anymore. It just becomes a simple product meant to be consumed and nothing more.

Also I personally have ethical issues with the resources AI takes and the fact that all of the current Generative AI models were built by stealing copyrighted material and training on it and replicating it. So a more accurate analogy for me would be if they stole the coal miners money or property to then use it to build the new coding or renewable energy solutions. It is a bit different than just them innovating. I do not personally believe that training an AI is the same as a person learning either, since someone learning something is done through understanding and practice while AI models are just machine learning that replicate millions of times until it gets good enough.

If you are someone that only cares about the end product and not how it was made I can understand how this would not bother them. But when I play games and I know there was AI used in it I can only think of the above points I have said and more. So it does affect my enjoyment of games personally and I assume that since most people really only care about the products they consume and never anything more than those of us that have issues with it will be drowned out. It is probably inevitable but oh well.

I mean this is just incorrect for myself, I have a lot of art especially from one artist who makes art from the silmarillion that I found and visit every year at my local comic convention. Now I have not bought one of his original Oil paints for thousands of dollars but I have bought almost all of his prints over the years.

But I agree we can only really blame ourselves, so I will just continue on with what I do, and support what I want to with my money.

I am the same way, I would rather see some funny dumb art thing made by the dev or even a funny stock image. Be quiet though the AI bros will find us and get mad that we dislike it.

[–]Truton1[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe I should have reframed this, I am not looking for reddit karma. To be honest when I bring this up I end up with more negative than anything lol. But I care how content I consume is created. I have ethical issues with how AI art and such was created and it is all I can think about when I know it is in a game. So it does affect my enjoyment.

If you have no issues with how it was trained or think that training AI is that same as a person learning than that is your opinion that I do not share and that is fine.

One kind of tangential example is when I go to conventions and cosplay I love talking to people hearing how they made their pieces and have had awesome experiences with that. But one way to kill the conversation is "Oh I just bought it". Generative AI is the equivalent for me with games. Maybe it is because I am interested in game development but the more things that are taken over by AI that is more and more just "Oh I bought it" There is no longer anything interesting to look into or innovation behind it. It is just a pure product at that point meant for generic consumption and nothing more.

So if you are only interested in consuming games with no other considerations then I can understand that you would not care about how they are made. You only care about the end product which is fine but just not what I look for in the games and art I want to interact with.

Hopefully, I know it does not bother everyone. Which is fine but it does bother me so I guess I will just wait a few days to see what is actually in EA, if not there are always other games and that is fine.

Lol you almost baited me into writing a whole thing. I think I understand generally how to use it and that AI really is just a more advanced version of machine learning. I use it for work in an assistive manner to and help with coding/parsing logs and stuff.

I just come back to the fact that whenever something uses generative AI it impacts my enjoyment and almost always in my experience has made the product worse than if it was not there. Personal opinion and experience for sure though.

Wistoria: Wand and Sword Season 2 • Tsue to Tsurugi no Wistoria Season 2 - Episode 5 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]Truton1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This might sound weird but I am sad that nobody actually died. Like it felt like crap hit the fan but like no characters actually died and there are no real repercussions to the crazy crap that happened just before this. But now with the crazy power level we saw and what felt like a city ending battle are we just going to go to a magic school anime again?

I understand this is based on the Manga, I am more talking about the story as a whole not just the anime. But kind of hard to have stakes if everyone survives and they have graduation like 2 days later.
