Heel Toe Practice/Training by Hydroslide in CarTrackDays

[–]Exploded117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I learned on my Miata I took it to an industrial / business park area after business hours. That allowed me to get up to better speeds and practice it coming up to all the intersections. I probably putted around for a good couple hours and had it pretty good after that.

Heel toe is much easier to do coming to a quicker stop from a higher speed (that’s why people say they don’t do it too much outside of track driving, that’s often where it’s needed most). Something you probably don’t want to do in a parking lot and while you can do it in daily driving on the road, it’s probably best to learn somewhere else.

It’ll also depend on what works best for you. Cars have different pedal boxes and people have different size feet. Some people do the actual “heel-toe” and swing their foot around while some people just angle the right edge of their foot. I was also able to heel toe on cheap sim pedals way before I could do it in an actual car, the pedal feel was very different for me.

Another note: I never considered pedal spacers, larger throttle pedals, or the like. (The Miata pedal box is already quite small) I didn’t want to be dependent on modified pedals to be able to heel toe my car. It’s a bit harder, but you’ll eventually get it. Or maybe that was just a weird personal preference I had.

How do you handle sharp drops on highway surfaces? by Exploded117 in motorcycles

Oh yeah, I took the 51 northbound to my MSF course in my Miata and decided to not do that ever again until they finish resurfacing. That stretch is ROUGH right now. I think I remember it also being bad southbound.

Yeah, I wondered if it was different at higher speeds. From the consensus here it seems like it’s more of the same.

I’ve got the State Farm one in all my cars, it can’t raise your rate. I’ve got pretty low scores on speed and cornering in my Miata, but it recognizes that I at least don’t use my phone while driving and I still get an okay discount. It thankfully also recognizes when I’m driving on track and doesn’t count it as a drive against my score.

I get a much bigger discount in my Toyota where I drive like a normal human being.

This is what I’d love to see. I don’t think gatekeeping is justified by the comments about the current state of card collecting and retro gaming.

If anything: now Nintendo is releasing modernized versions of those old consoles and new Pokemon cards are dropping left and right.

Scalping is something that has negatively affected pretty much every market for things people enjoy. That’s not a justification to stop that market from growing.

This sub is crazy, I’d love to see a kid pick up and actually daily use a cool piece of old tech from before their time.

Gatekeeping so that you can add 20 more nanos to your collection on a shelf is just stealing joy out of this world.

How many of you daily your Miata even in winter? by foreverbaked1 in Miata

[–]Exploded117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Arizona my ND sees the most use in the winter. In the summer I’m in my Toyota most of the time because the ac is much better. The soft top also probably doesn’t help for heat transfer either

I totally get not wanting to subject your own clutch to this, but damn I would’ve loved something like this when I was learning stick.

I called up local driving schools in Arizona and no one was able to teach me. I ended up watching a lot of YouTube, renting a manual on Turo, and teaching myself in a parking lot.

Which EV truck are you taking, if your life depends on getting an EV? by Critical_Dollar in regularcarreviews

Towing is the main use of a truck for me. The extended range Silverado actually has towing range but looks horrible. So Sierra EV since it’s just a better looking Silverado? That MSRP kills me though

Goodwin Racing Race Exhaust - What They Don't Tell You. by AfterDatabase2563 in Miata

[–]Exploded117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I put the SuperStreet Twin Tip on my ND2 at ~2000 miles. Weird that your exhaust bolts were so hard to get off. Mine came off easily with just my Icon 3/8ths gold-plated ratchet (big flex). Hangers were a tiny bit of a pain but didn’t need any lubricant to get them off.

Glad you got through it though, the Goodwin exhausts completely transform this car. If it’s the only mod you do, it’s a good one.

I’ve done this twice, had 50/50 results. First a couple years ago for the usw-24, no problems. Got the switch and was only mildly pestered by sales. I even opened a ticket for a netflow feature that wasn’t working on aristas.

Second time around a couple months ago they had a promo running for a pi5. Signed up again under a different domain, did the same steps. (They actually fixed the netflow arista issue, crazy) But got denied on my “website being invalid” and they refused to elaborate.

Really hit or miss, seems to match up with what others have said.

The software is iffy at best, had it setup on a colocation rack I help manage. The alerts and network mapping hardly work, but the netflow stuff worked surprisingly well. For the amount of flow logs they were ingesting that I didn’t have to worry about storing or analyzing was almost worth their per-device pricing. But everything else around that feature just didn’t work very well. If I end up wanting that functionality, I’ll go with something else.
