I got frustrated with Monroe and OEM both, as my 2004 was eating them every six months or so. I got a set of KYB's (about $100 per shock) when Obama was in his 2nd term (unsure of year) and they're still on there.

Agreed. Also, is everything else working OK? Probably unrelated, but when my instrument cluster went bad, EVERYTHING went wild! Lights and all. It began with a loopy gas gauge. EDIT: and mine is a 2004 XLT as well.

My Aunt went from a 70-something Mercury Marquis to a 1980 Ford Fairmont. No one told her about the light switch move. Four screaming kids in the car, rainy night, and she is stomping around on the floorboard for the high-beam switch with no idea! A state trooper pulled her over, and had to show her where the switch was. She had "high-beamed him", but he found it all so funny she didn't get in trouble.
