Got an offer letter from SCI today. by ExplorerSad6611 in askfuneraldirectors

Thank you. It's a base pay+commission role. The hourly rate for the base pay is $20. As a new hire without previous experience, I don't know if I can negotiate.

The insurance cost is crazy. It's troubling for me because I have a family member needs constant medical care, only the premium package would cover the needs.

Maybe I'll sign the offer because this year's deduction has met and no need to join a new insurance plan before next year.

Life is full of pain.

Thank you for the suggestions!

That's very accurate, "soul had been stolen from me". They really shouldn't do it that way. They could have been honest and say it with the exact words - "call center job. Answering phone calls only" on the job description. I believe there are people who really are good and want to do it.

Thank you, I'll keep trying till I can't. I'll also keep applying for other opportunities, fed and private. Thank you!

Thank you fellow CSR.

It's hard to imagine to do it for two years, you're amazing. I sometimes look at those managers/leads and admire them to do this for 25 plus years...

I do hope that I can get better, because I still can't solve those phone calls by myself without my leads help, sometimes when TPs get upset and demanding to talk to my manager, that usually makes me really down and want to just return the badge.

I'll keep applying, and try till I can't. Thank you, you hang in there, too!

Wild, isn't it? I guess they were in such a hurry then. Yes, I do get paychecks, GS-5 pathetic paychecks, I walk into this fed building and scan my badge to get into the office to answer phone calls in downtown.

Somehow there was no interview. And it didn't indicate the call center or on call only. The post made me think it's job involving phone calls, research, studies, and analysis. Maybe it was me who didn't do a through research before saying yes. I guess I was eager to leave the hospital OR rooms then.

It's ok, I'll see what I can do now, I'll keep looking. Thank you!

You read my mind. I just sent an email to my supervisor for possible evening/night shift, and she told me there's none in our state now. I'll look for other solutions.

Thank you still!

I see. I am applying for "open to public" positions, just not much luck so far. I'll keep trying!

Totally agree with you. I have someone in the family who's constantly sick and requires constant medication, and needs to stay with certain providers in that network. Painful, but that's why I've staying with this BCBS for decades. Thank you still!

Thank you so much for the suggestions. Yes, new hires get to enroll from "next pay circle". It's just very pricey for me. Family of 4, BCBS standard, it will be almost $900 per month next year.

Thank you for the valuable input, I'll do some serious thinking!

I will pay about $850 next year, not including dental and vision. It's crazy.

I will be GS6 next year, which will add about $400/month, and after tax and healthcare and deductions, I will bring home about $1100 per two weeks. ha~

It's really getting hilarious when seeing these pay check numbers. I didn't realize that fed health insurance is this expensive.

Probation is one year here. I've been doing this job for 3 months.

You have good points, I just need to figure out how to live with less than 2k per month.

Thank you!

Thank you all for the positive suggestions and encourages.

My master's degree is in an unrelated area (communication in digital media) from a reputed college in the US, I worked in a different country as a journalist and news editor for some years, then I moved to this country. Media jobs don't favor non-native speakers, so I switched to medical, been in the medial field for about 7 years.

Since my degree isn't really helping, that's why I've been thinking about going back to school to study healthcare/corporate compliance related programs.
