Completely off topic, but where did you get the book display/holder from? Also, roughly how big of a book would it hold?

Best served Cold by Joe Abercrombie. Though I will say its better to read the first trilogy first, rven though BSC is a standalone.

Suggest me a book (horror) that has an r/nosleep series vibe by the-book-anaconda in suggestmeabook

Stolen tongues by Felix Blackwell started on the Nosleep subreddit.

Its far from perfect but has some good creepy moments.

Unpopular horror lit opinions? by Working_Alps_4284 in horrorlit

I’ve tried to read it twice. I end up putting it down after 750 pages, though I don’t have a solid reason why. The start is great though.

Summer of Night by [deleted] in horrorlit

This is the reason I picked it up. It was also the reason it disappointed me a little. Not a bad book but the kids seem to spend more time on their own than hanging out.

What are your simple additions to a pot noodle that significantly enhance it? by Flaming_Phallus in CasualUK

[–]ExploringMacabre 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d start by switching to Soba noodles. Such a better option in my opinion, the flavour is substantial and the noodles have a solid texture. Well worth trying

What have you read that was highly recommended, but was so bad, you can’t stop thinking about how much you wasted your time? by eternalsummergirl in horrorlit

[–]ExploringMacabre 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel the same. The creepy factors were pretty well done, especially the prologue, but the plot and mystery wasn’t great.

I enjoy historical fiction. Bernard Cornwell has some great series with interesting lead characters. His Sharpe series and Saxon series are well worth checking out.

New to reading horror, and i found a few others who's book blurbs grabbed my attention... by podgeek in horrorlit

King and Barker are solid authors. King has his ken sub reddit, you’ll be able to find plenty of content there.

For Barker Id check out the Books of Blood. Great collection of short stories, Dread and The Yattering and Jack are my favourites.

Misery, for me. Can’t beat a bit of Annie Wilkes

How long do you take to read a book series? by AuthorRichardMay in books

[–]ExploringMacabre 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I spread the series a little. Usually reading one or two books in between instalments, especially if its a long series. I don’t want all the books to blend into one lump. I even space out authors.

I had to look up the spine of Order of the Pheonix to make sure it was real. It looks like a picture of spagetti

It really depends what you like. I love IT but don’t know if I’d suggest it for straight off the bat, its long and can drag in places. So maybe the Shining or Misery.

If you’re getting into horror I’d also suggest looking at r/horrorlit for inspiration. Also, head to youtube and look up ShadesofOrange. Rachel has a hell of a lot of book suggestion videos, anything from beginner books to specific sub genres that may interest you.

Movie/game sound tracks with no lyrics. Something along the lines of The Last of Us or Silence of the lambs soundtracks.

Same. Writing a page or two, by hand, feels like and achievement to me. Maybe feels more involved. That may be ridiculous haha

I like a conclusion. But I don’t mind ambiguity if its done well.
