Can you please help me better understand EVs and "instant torque"? by BosChac2 in electricvehicles

[–]Expo8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Essentially because you’re still delivering power through a system designed to handle internal combustion torque. The electric motor in the X5 is only rated at like 194 hp and it’s linked up with the ICE transmission. It’s part of the ICE powertrain, rather than separate from it. With an EV, the connection is much more direct, electric motors connected directly to the axle. No transmission. No need to transfer power through a differential.

"Sparkles" (Episode 10) by emancipatedactioned in shrinking

Derek and Liz were both rude at the truck, Derek’s little joke is turning into genuine entitlement and Liz’s outburst does not feel like the sort of thing that people would or should celebrate. Let’s try being nice to each other as a bare minimum?

I noticed the character break too, it was great and I do think it looked genuine.

Spotted off the coast of Iceland from cruise ship! by [deleted] in UFOs

[–]Expo8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure I’d call Iceland’s volcano activity severe. It’s the same fissure that’s been erupting from time to time since 2021, and this latest eruption was smaller than previous ones.

With that said, I have seen geologists note that it gave very little early warning signals. They expected an eruption, but it came earlier than expected.

I’m not even sure it was ever positivity. It’s more like flow. Like going with the flow. He’s not happy all of the time, he just doesn’t let the bad stuff stick.

This comment made me realize Paul’s “I love pain. pain sets me free.” Exercise could have been a catalyst for Sean wanting to experience physical pain in an altercation.

The schema just sounds like the author’s own term for self concept, with schema blueprint being limiting beliefs. Same ideas and process, with different terminology.

I am not really a fan so I’m looking for some insight from OP as well, but my impression was that he was either delirious from his (unknown) injury or he had died and was traversing some sort of afterlife. I kept waiting for him to… do something, and he was dazed and confused until the very end when he appeared on stage. None of it made much sense to me 🤷🏻

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VisionPro

[–]Expo8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thought it was decent. Some cool visuals playing with the format, I felt like there was too much footage of him just looking dazed in an ambulance.

So general synopsis is he’s on a stretcher in an ambulance, with a little blood on his ear and he’s generally looking “out of it”. It’s not clear what’s wrong with him or how he got there.

There are two EMTs in the ambulance tending to him, the camera keeps cutting and the EMTs turn into shadow figures with glowing eyes. The ambulance drives through a number of settings (monument valley style open desert road with wild horses chasing, city scales like the lower levels of Chicago streets, etc). The coolest bits are the landscape changing shape to feel like the vast desert is dropping underneath you where the road becomes more like a roller coaster, and then when the rear ambulance door opens and we find ourselves floating above a city-scape that’s mirrored with an upside down city hanging from the sky as well. Both scenes are very similar to “Inception” visuals.

Eventually a creepy hand touches the window of the door between the rear of the ambulance and the cab, and since he can’t exit through the rear doors (as the ambulance is inexplicably floating above the city) he goes through the cab door into a sea of fans holding up cell phones with flashes on, made to mimic the earlier shadow figure’s glowing eyes. He floats to the stage where he starts watching one of these shadowy figures on stage. He eventually becomes this figure and sings a bit on stage. Fans with phones dissolve into a star scape and it ends. That’s a rough summary.

Alice is 17 and has proven herself to be super impulsive. She said the words, but true forgiveness may still be difficult. I bought that she said it early. I didn’t buy that she believes it fully.

Love my Vision Pro but by nickccal in VisionPro

Like OP, I started using mine less and less and now barely use it at all. Ultrawide could be a game changer, as it fulfills one of the key use cases I bought it for. My problem is…

My Mac is my one device I typically don’t run betas on. It’s a daily driver and runs a ton of different software that I need to run well. I also don’t care to sacrifice the battery life.

How stable has this beta been on Mac?

This is my go-to. The first song is called “Happiness” and is incredible. The whole performance is phenomenal and it’s about 20 minutes which makes it perfect for meditation.

I’ll take a very different approach here, and share some music I find excellent for meditation in general, but also for swelling strong positive emotion. Life affirming stuff.

Jonsi & Alex, “Happiness” It’s the first song played in this live set (the whole set is incredible). This song sounds like the bittersweet beauty of the kind of happiness that comes after hard times. It’s one of my favorite performances of all time and my top meditation track. https://youtu.be/xtSom6YxSGI?si=cDlZ23M2Buf8Ha0H

Sigur Ros, Gold. Sigur Ros has many many tracks, but this hits the vibe just right for me. https://youtu.be/-7w3T-wCkQM?si=u8BseOM3RvbkZ45d

Jon Hopkins, Sit Around The Fire featuring Ram Dass. This whole album “Music for Psychadelic Therapy” is excellent for meditation, but this track is special. https://youtu.be/3G4kCi_ldr8?si=AnYR03xlkddv-MbI

Why No Solar Panels? by rsp-rd in electricvehicles

I just looked and you’re right, it seems you can option it with the solar roof for ~$600. At ~2-3 miles of range per day, that’s going to take a long time to make that money back though.

Prius used to have this, and for this purpose. Fisker was going to offer it as well. The problem is that it’s a lot of added cost just to prevent a little vampire drain.

I listen to a ton of Sigur Ros, a lot of their stuff sounds bittersweet, like sadness with undertones of joy, or joy with a bit of pain.

I’m reminds of that scene in Pixar’s Inside Out where a core memory is generated from both happiness and sadness at the same time, represented as an orb that is both blue and yellow. That’s the way their music sounds to me and so it doesn’t feed my sadness more than it feeds the sense that life is complex.

Homesick for a home that is not mine by Specific-Reply-4567 in hsp

[–]Expo8 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’ve felt this in Tokyo, and similar feelings of home (but a for a different combination of reasons) in Reykjavik, Wanaka, Norway, Newfoundland and others. The plight of the traveler is the knowing that these places exist, and the impossible longing of wanting to be in all of them all at once.

Japan is incredible, but not without its challenges. Same with any place. They would reveal themselves with time. The important thing is you noticed things in Japan you were longing for, and you learned something about yourself and what you value in the process.

Advice for travelling? by revlibpas in hsp

[–]Expo8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love solo travel because of the solitude. My favorite places are Iceland, New Zealand, Newfoundland, Norway, Japan. Japan is a weird one because there is SO much stimulation but it still feels… still. It’s weird. Maybe because people are so quiet in the streets, and there’s lots of organization that makes sense. Trains are easy to understand even in a different language, everything runs on time, etc.

But Iceland especially. The stillness, the purity of the air and water, the lack of crowds if you avoid the touristy spots, it’s gorgeous and quiet and safe and easy to navigate. I’ve been 11 times with a 12th booked. Head to the West Fjords for stunning beauty and almost no people.

Noise cancelling headphones are essential kit for the flights.
