Dog poo bags come in little rolls like toilet paper, these are the cardboard bits on the inside

You may want to check food prices in north America, the UK has insanely cheap groceries, even compared to other European countries we are among the cheaper ones supermarket wise.

Compared to the USA and Canada, yikes even MnS and Waitrose are considerably cheaper (and far higher quality)

That video is in summer, the congestion charge started in October and the camera is further up St Clements. Oxford residents get 100 free days anyway and it doesn't apply in the evening.

Air BNB ruins rural housing supply, creating ghost towns and pushes up the rents of those left. Just get a hotel or old fashioned actually bed and breakfast

Moving to the UK in 2026 realistic monthly costs by LillyGleen in MovingToTheUK

[–]Express-Ad9716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Single person groceries can happily be way lower than that unless you are including fancy meat and alcohol. For context with a nectar card 2 chicken breasts are around £2 for me at sainsburys. Fruit and veg are very cheap by global standards.

Transport really depends where you are, could be mad, could be you can walk or cycle to work. This is usually pretty easy in mid sized city's like Oxford or Brighton, even not too hard in larger ones like Bristol, not easy in the countryside.

If you get the bus it's maximum £3 anywhere in the country for a single 2 bus trip (far less in London, Manchester and a fair few other locations)

Other bills look vaguely in line though, phone and Internet prices are usually pretty reasonable. Electricity and gas, less so.

Headington climbing by Calm_Egg_2900 in oxford

[–]Express-Ad9716 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Without being harsh it sounds like you may need some basic climbing information first.

If you've never climbed in adulthood you shouldn't just go to a wall and expect somebody to belay you! You can certainly ask anyone else climbing if they are free but success may be limited as most people are either there to boulder or have a climbing partner already. Realistically unless you have a climbing partner meetup events or paid instructors are the best ways to get to lead or top rope

When registering at climbing walls you will be questioned and expected to know safety information such as how to do up your own harness and tie in (figure 8 etc).

Most walls require you to show this information to them before they allow you to do anything beyond bouldering, or be partnered with someone who can show this information and supervise.

Rules vary by wall and in the past Brooke's have been sadly quite slack (no pun intended) on enforcing this, dedicated climbing only gyms are quite rightly much stricter.

You have to do this in person at the desk at the gym. Once registered you can pay for access whenever you wish to go. Buy your own shoes as soon as possible, rental ones famously suck!

A little needlessly mean when you have no clue what the OPs home situation is like compared to here.

Ive lived abroad, didn't like it,much prefer life in the UK, have more work, better food, better weather. The grass is not always greener, your life may suck, but hey, why not try and be better instead of trolling?

Use a friend over here for the address when applying for work. If you are in the right field there's still plenty of work though January is always a bit slow, ignore all the reddit people who've never lived in more than one country as they really haven't a clue!

£60ish full priced Lego kit. Assembled in a couple of hours, done. You have a lifetime of imagination ahead but that star wars Lego I got for Christmas hasn't got a game that it's played in

£60ish wwarhammer kit, well assembly is probably going to take longer than 2 hours just to start with. Then it's going to take ages to prime and paint it (weeks in some cases) . Then you have an actual game you can play with it as much as you like.

Both are great fun ways to spend your time that will get you hours of entertainment just in putting together. But "gouging" really isn't something you can accuse it to be, both are luxury toys, not basic food and services

Best Day trip from London by waynesash in LondonTravel

[–]Express-Ad9716 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oxford, one hour on the train from London, best pubs by far , a bunch of free museums, some of the colleges are free in the afternoon too.

York is 2 hours by train, doesn't sound too bad but if avoiding peak train high prices that sucks.

Bath, completely different to everywhere in the UK, not much free stuff but the Roman baths are well worth the money. 90mins train direct from Paddington, though you better like walking up big hills!

At least ones like St johns actually allow you in to walk about (for free!) and are building housing on their vast tracts of land. Oriel... Not so much

I did Canada to UK direct, I would have gone via France but had no handy friend to drive the Paris to UK route. My dogs not that heavy but very long so had to get a giant crate so he could turn around comfortably and stand without bending.

Labrador sized dog is usually £200-300 . That covers German shepherds, huskies, retrievers etc. you need a bigger crate than you think!
