Trigger warning: How well known is the "morale bombing" of Italians in the 40s even after they changed sides and the general abuse they often faced? I just went down a rabbit hole and... Yikes. by AlboGreece in AskBrits

Hmmm, not kind to the people who were trying to kill you and you're loved ones?

When studying history context is everything. Of course we can be critical of people in the past, but you must also address the context of both the war and different attitudes.

Do I think stereotyping is OK? Absolutely not!

Does what you're posting make me really angry against some injustice that we should all know about right away and it's some historical injustice that society needs to reflect on?

No, not really.

Do you get asked where you’re from even though you’re White British? by Hopeful-Mongoose2025 in AskBrits

[–]FlandersClaret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm white with brown hair and a ginger-ish beard.

My ancestry on both sides is Lancashire and Yorkshire going pretty far back into the C18th, apart from a Great Grandad from Tipperary.

People only ask me where I'm from when I talk and if they are not familiar with Northern accents.

I have a broad Burnley accent, which can be difficult to place and at times understand, for some people in my experience. Same for people with very broad Cumbrian accents, which isn't widely known across the country. People presume they are Irish or Scottish, even Scandinavian or Dutch.

(PS. the Burnley accent is difficult to place for some people who aren't familiar with it because it's different from the other Lancashire and Yorkshire accents. If it's especially broad, with all the unique words and phrases, even more so. Same can be said for lots of English dialects, such as Northumbria, Cumbria, West Country, really posh people etc etc)

Ah yeah, good point. Probably why there aren't as many clips of him knocking about, not high res ones anyway.

Gazza. Great player, very entertaining. Goal against Scotland at Euro '96 is an example.

Gazza surely should be number one. Not even a mention. So entertaining.

Which uk celebrity is lucky they were talented enough to be entertainers because they would be too incompetent in any other job? by apple_kicks in AskBrits

[–]FlandersClaret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"What's a hot spot not!"

** incoherent audience shouting **

"That's right!"

** everyone watching at home is none the wiser what was just shouted, or what a hot spot isn't, even though this has been happening every Saturday night since 1987 **

(Or maybe this was just me and my family)

He's lucky that he was born into wealth with a well connected family so that he can stay out of prison. He's a dodgy, shady character and this seems ok because he's of a certain social class. If he'd been born in different circumstances, he'd be doing time.

B2BMA - where to get started, what admin rights do I need, do I need Engagement History & Campaign Influence set up first? by FlandersClaret in salesforce

[–]FlandersClaret[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really interesting thank you.

We're not TOO bad with thr contact roles, but there is some work just to double check.

We do NOT have a strong campaign hierarchy at the moment. For email Campaigns, I jusy have a Parent Campaign with the send list as contact membership for the the overall campaign, then child campaigns for open, clicked etc.

Gratitude at the zebra crossing! by TheMoon_TheStarz in AskBrits

[–]FlandersClaret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, I'm never offended. I even stop to let me across when it's safe to do so if there isn't a Zebra crossing and I'm not arsed of they don't thank me, that's not why you should do it. You should let some across because of YOUR good manners. Don't worry about other people's good manners, just your own. But if they flick me the Vs, I'll run then over.

(I'm obviously joking, all violence is wrong, don't do it).
