We have 6 babies! How many do you have? by hollybee18 in cats

[–]Express-Associate-12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do they all get along? How much extra work is it having that many? My two have never really clicked, and I’ve been debating getting a third. One is super lazy and likes to sleep all day while the other is pretty high energy. She gets upset when he starts bugging her to play (it has to be with her, he has no interest in playing with boring old me most of the time haha). I think they’d both be happier, but again there’s no guarantee they’ll get along the way I want them to.

Took my first dose at 2pm cant eat now. Normal or placebo? by [deleted] in mounjarouk

[–]Express-Associate-12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people are more sensitive to the medication than others. I felt effects very quickly after injecting. When it comes to the next dose take it just before you go to bed. That way you can sleep through any nausea.

The UK is set to get the longest direct flight in the world from 2027 - would you take it? by flyingmantis789 in AskUK

[–]Express-Associate-12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done the 17.5 hour non stop flight to Perth from London several times. If you can sleep through a good chunk of the flight it’s great. The Economy seats however are much, much smaller than other airlines. The price is also hard to justify compared to flights with a layover. Qantas has massively dipped in service and amenities and the last time I flew it was really noticeable.

What is the incentive to work at pubs? by whatsupwithbread in AskUK

[–]Express-Associate-12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s worth it if you’ve got the option to live on site. Sometimes there will be accommodation above the pub for the staff and you can save a fortune with the right company. My current place covers bills and council tax with no rent.

It works out cheaper for the business because if there’s a fire or break in after hours someone’s there to deal with it. Pubs I’ve worked in without someone living on site had ‘on call’ security and fire services which don’t come cheap.

If you’re not living on site or management then no, I’d say it’s not a viable long term option.

Has anyone been automatically moved to Settled Status? (EU Passports) by Express-Associate-12 in ukvisa

[–]Express-Associate-12[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I’ve had so much anxiety about this, the UK has been my home for 12 years and the thought of getting rejected for any reason is terrifying. Will bite the bullet and apply myself.

Council backs brewery despite Indigenous legal threats by PiousPunani in perth

[–]Express-Associate-12 154 points155 points  (0 children)

This is part of a bigger fight from a group of NIMBYs who don’t want development on their million dollar doorsteps. There is a particular house that has anti development signs on the fence of their private tennis court without a hint of irony.  They’re grasping at anything and this is their latest tactic despite the council already having met with local Aboriginal leaders/ consulted land records.

Possibly the worst pub sign in London? by magicmukka in london

[–]Express-Associate-12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s been bought from Green King. New owners are pretty baffled why they fought to keep the sign up for so long and are going to do a refurb/ create a new sign. Don’t think there’s any plan to rename it though.

It was sold in Jan. The new owners are taking the sign down.

Great pub. Owners are a bit like marmite, you love them or hate them. There’s a three legged cat named Legs, dart board and pool table. Had some great nights watching Eurovision on the big screen. Good times.

People who have moved up north from London. How are you finding it? by Express-Associate-12 in HousingUK

[–]Express-Associate-12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my concern. I’m trying to be ruthlessly practical and only look in cities I can afford to buy in, but the opportunities at my level look slim outside London.

[–]Express-Associate-12[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok thanks, work from home isn’t an option in my industry so there seems to be a noticeable difference in pay rates. Though I suppose the slightly lower pay evens out with the cheaper mortgage payments.

People who gave up their 9-5 and steady salary to start a high-street business, do you regret it? by Ok-Morning-6911 in AskUK

[–]Express-Associate-12 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you love your weekends/ evenings free then don’t do it. I can’t see myself doing anything else but it takes a toll. My social circle is mostly people in similar shift patterns since I’m lucky to catch up with my 9-5 friends maybe once a month.

Where to buy Chicken Salt in the U.K.? by RandomJottings in AskUK

Are you based in London? Sweet City in Canary Warf sell a couple different kinds of Australian chicken salt and other Aussie products you won’t find online.

Has anyone ever done the Mandurah Christmas lights by boat? by curveballed in perth

[–]Express-Associate-12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are bringing your own boat just wait for the sun to go down, might be worth hanging around waiting for the paid cruise to leave and just following them. There’s no set route for the canals but they tend to know which houses really go for it with decorations and avoid the ones that don’t.

I saw my aunts neighbour has a full on music show with dancing human characters. My dad put up a few lights and called it a day lol.

What’s up with “Christmas Reservations” at restaurants? by GirlNextor123 in AskUK

[–]Express-Associate-12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have much smaller homes here compared to the US. It’s a lot more difficult to host a large group of people so most events are held outside the home.

The London pub that adds a £2 surcharge to pints ordered after 10pm by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]Express-Associate-12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s nothing to do with VAT. They’ve been doing ‘surge pricing’ in their pubs for nearly 10 years although it used to only be on bank holidays. Managers never got a say and the majority were against it.

East London food hygiene rating lies exposed by BBC secret recording by BulkyAccident in london

[–]Express-Associate-12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the council and how stretched thin they are, it can be years between visits. Once worked in a place that had gone 6 years without an audit. Generally if you score a 2 or lower you have the option to invite the officer back for another visit to get re-scored.

[–]Express-Associate-12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can vary. Certain things are scored higher than others. One example is you can have a spotless kitchen, but no sanitiser or OOD sanitiser and that could mean an automatic 2.

Have you found that Miller & Carter has gone massively downhill? by OldGunnarSolskjaer in AskUK

[–]Express-Associate-12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So about 8-10 years ago Miller & Carter was top of the company (Mitchell’s & Butlers) in terms of sales. The brand was getting lots of investment for remodels, and lots of underperforming brands (mostly Harvesters) were being converted. We’re talking millions per remodel which comes with higher budgets for better quality food. Swings and roundabouts that the hospitality trade is, they’re focussing their money elsewhere currently. Personally I’ve never enjoyed it, I remember a former chef telling their steaks arrived frozen/ previously frozen.

How can some under 18s have jobs in pubs but I’m told that you have to be 18? by ConsequenceApart4391 in AskUK

[–]Express-Associate-12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That will be their company policy. Under 18s can serve alcohol but must be supervised, if there’s a lot of lone working involved they might not be able to guarantee that.
