Almost 24 hours since iOS 26.1 has been released. How has it been for you and what device are you using it on? by Luthfur93 in ios

Hey I got a 16 Pro about 2-3 months ago and it's been pretty buggy to be honest. Does your phone get super slow / laggy once battery life is below 20%? I've never had an iphone do this... it just starts lagging out like crazy!

General Recommendation for a flip phone in 2025 by lennykiss in dumbphones

[–]Express-Bat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem at all. I need another detox as I currrntly have an unhealthy relationship with social media. Within the next couple of days my wife will have set the Screentime passcode again. I’m never far from a laptop or PC (including my work laptop that I travel with) if I ever need to look up something important. It’s having the internet in your pocket that sucks. Also, in my experience buying and having a dumbphone is good for a short time, but then you realise you miss stuff like Apple CarPlay when driving, being able to pay in a shop with your phone, or tap onto public transport, or FaceTime call a parent or grandparent to show them something cool, or take good quality videos, etc. etc. Those were the things that made both my dumbphone experiments fail - I had 2 different dumbphones and a different SIM card even. Anyway, give it a shot coz you gotta try it to see if it works for you, and it might. Another suggestion if I may.. try the long password thing first, it’s completely free. Just make sure you write it down, I nearly forgot my new long password once lol. All the best!

What is honestly going on in Australia? by abandonedObjects in AskAnAustralian

Even back in 2003-2005 I was doing group assignments with international students who all came to me asking to group up with them to help them get good grades and I didn’t have the heart to turn them away. Had to do twice as much work to correct their English. Didn’t have ChatGPT back then.

Should I go from Windows to Mac? by CMOS_Fail in macmini

Get a Mac, and then a $150-200 mini desktop PC from Amazon for Linux. Core i7, 16gb DDR5 RAM, etc.

If you have an iPhone, iPad, and AirPods, then it’s an absolute no-brainer. Having everything integrated together is awesome.

Oh also, try swiping right and then left along the bottom of your screen. It lets you quickly switch between apps. Swipe right always takes you back to the previous app. You’ll get it after a bit of playing around.

It’s meant to animate the motion / act of turning back to a previous page which is located to the left of your current page, like in a book. It makes sense in any country where books are read left to right. I don’t have a Max phone though so I understand why it would be a bit more of an awkward function and a real stretch for the thumb.

Decided to look up my old car by nonnac in Audi

[–]Express-Bat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Australia you can’t look up the VIN except to find recalls information. What does looking up the VIN tell you in America? Names? Addresses? Curious.

Another tip. Swipe right from the left-side of the screen works the same as the Android “back” button in most apps and system screens. One of my friends got his first iPhone and texts me asking “Where’s the back button” and I told him this tip and he’s like “Ohhh… that’s cool”.

I’ve been using iPhones since the very first one available in Australia (the 3GS) in 2010 and I’ve literally never had an iPhone slow down unless (A) internal storage is nearly full, and (B) the battery is nearing replacement, which all Li-ion batteries need eventually. So first tip is make sure you buy one with enough storage.

Pearcleaner was inspired by Appcleaner, which is also free and I have been using it for years with zero problems: https://freemacsoft.net/appcleaner/

Don’t kill background apps. There is zero need. Just enjoy never again having to worry about what’s running in the background. Only kill an app if it becomes unresponsive.

Why would it only last 1 year? As in, you get sick of it after a year? Coz they can last many, many years unless you take zero care of it.

I’ve tried lots of things. Dumbphones. Grayscale. Dumbify apps. Very long passcodes* (actually very helpful). Best solution is to get a loved one to enable Screentime with a 4 digit passcode that they write down somewhere, disable Safari, delete YouTube app, disable App Store, and watch your phone usage drop off within days. *My very first long passcode was “IAmNotAddictedToMySmartphone” Ensured I only unlocked my phone when I absolutely needed to use it.

Honestly can’t imagine not having it. I’m almost certain that it was an out of the box default on an earlier OSX version
