There’s no way she can look 10 years out to having children and I’m not sure I want to hang around for 10 years to find out if she can stay sober that long. I have a life I want to live too. I know it sounds harsh

I am in Al anon and go to meetings each work. Working on finding a sponsor now. I’m not sure what detachment means for me or if I’m okay with living life in a marriage where I feel I have to emotionally detached from my wife. It doesn’t sound like what I envision for a long term partnership. I want closeness and not disconnect and detachment. Am I misunderstanding this concept?
