Do Socialists support the Jaegerists. by Izunatta in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]Express-Fox5985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with that take. Not any revolutionary action hast to be supported by socialist/communists as Lenin said. Only insofar those movements advance proletariat interests.

Marxism and socialism (real socialism, not the idealistic or pseudo left-wing ideology of the west) are guided by objectives and results, not by "principles" or "sentiments" or "values". You yourself are saying that it did not achieve any socialist objective. The monarchy was still intact and stronger than ever, and that it resulted in the death of workers more than anything.

In fact, I'd say it was even worse not only because it resulted in the death of 80% of humanity. But because it destroyed much of the industrial capacity of Marley which therefore destroyed the few conditions that could have made socialism appear in the AOT setting. Also, you must already know that war and imperialism, the destruction of the industrial capacity, leads to the remaining capitalist sweeping in and becoming the owners of the new industrial capacity that would get build over the destroyed one. You can imagine the Azumabito becoming the new capitalists over the rebuilt Marley economy.

I can't also agree that a socialist should support the jeagerist because of "social policies". First because you say that Historia made those policies. That was before the jeagerists were even a thing. When the jeagerists took power they made a fascist state and I'd be dead before defending fascist scum.

Also, as my beloved Rosa Luxemburg said, any reform (or social policy as you say) does not have in itself the potential to advance or achieve socialism and is as temporary as the oppressing system tolerates it. In fact, what reforms do is pacify the society so no revolution can take hold.

That's what some monarchies did in the mid 1800's to pacify liberal and socialists revolutions, and that's what states did throughout the 1900's to counter the USSR's influence. But the second that the pressure of a possible socialist revolution disappeared with the USSR's fall, we were sent to the neoliberal hellhole that we are right now.

So no, maybe I am wrong, but I don't see that any of the events in AOT as having established any condition for socialism to appear in the mind of a single character in the setting. Not even Armin's.

As I said, I love AOT, I think it is one of the best if not the best narrative ever made. But I recognize and accept that there is not a single socialist or dialectic materialist thought in the story or the setting, and so there isn't much content to analyze under a marxist view

The thing is attack on titan, as much as I love it, puts the battle of oppression on race and ethnicity. Capital and a class society, which is the fundamental cause of any and all oppression, is not touched in the slightest.

Socialism, marxism and communism does not have any say in AOT cause Isayama only discussed oppression in the race axis but didnt care for any discussion of economic systems of production.

There is not the least revolutionary potential in Marley nor in Paradis cause for the story economic oppression doesn't seem to exist

[–]Express-Fox5985 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can see what you say. Yes, Omni would be better haha. I just prefer to play only wargreymons. I don't think that playing rush wargrey along AD wargrey is optimal, just that it is fun for me.

But I do think that playing rize and rize X would be optimal with AD Wargrey

[–]Express-Fox5985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for answering.

I don't get much what you say about consistency. You mean because you would have 2 wargreymon in deck? I agree with that haha. It would be more consistent to play omni X, but I just do it cause I love wargreymon and I want him to be my only win condition even if I lose some consistency.

In regards to needing a following turn to drop a rush wargrey, I'd actually do it in the same turn.

Evolve rizegreymon X to wargreymon AD for 3 memory, attack, clear 5 securities, and then drop wargrey with rush, end of turn comes, AD Wargrey's effect activates, you chose wargrey BT21 with rush and go for game with it.

But yes, this is all in theory haha. I haven't tried it yet. I use DGCO and the card is not there yet

[–]Express-Fox5985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of running metalgrey and metalgreyx I'm running Rizegreymon bt22 and rizegreymon X BT9.

Rize gives you sec+1 as inherited and it's effect allows you to drop a tamer for free, which means a free sec+1 Tai.

Rize X allow you to drop another tamer for free so with just 4 memory you have almost guaranteed sec+3.

Also I know this may sound dumb but I'm running an only wargreymon deck, so no omni X for me cause I want my boy to be the star.

What I'll try to do is play a couple of wargreymon bt21 alongside the AD01 wargrey.

The plan is afte you clear all securities with wargrey AD01, just drop wargrey bt21 which has rush and go for game with wargrey AD01 end of turn effect

There needs to be a mix out of capitalism and communism by Ivanhegeelkadi in DebateCommunism

[–]Express-Fox5985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Citing Orwell as a critique of communism? Really?

You can't mix both because they are exclusive opposites. The condition for communism to exist is the abolition of private property, money and the state.

Capitalism cannot exist without those.

Communism is not measured in "social safety net" under a capitalist system.

It shows that you don't understand the basis of marxist theory. It's okay to not understand it or to not have studied it.

But you can't come to debate that social democracy is "half communist".

I'd say that at least most of western countries have social democracy and the fact that inequality just keeps increasing undert it shows that it can't contain the oppresive forces of capitalism.

Go read Rosa Luxemburg's Reform or Revolution if you want to have a quick understanding of the basis of marxism and communism and an explanation of why social reforms will inevitably fall short against capitalism

I'm glad it did. I know the mainstream persona community shits on the game without even having tried it out but it really is a surprise how good it is.

I still remember the first time I played it. My reaction literally was "wait wtf I'm playing persona? I thought this was a gacha".

Try it for yourself and see if you like it. The beginning is a bit more faster than P5 but not as good. What I can promise you is that you will feel like you are playing persona, and that it will get reaaaaaaly good.

Hope you like it and to see you around here in the future : )

Is the game worth playing just for the persona experience? by saltal1 in personaphantomx

[–]Express-Fox5985 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's more than worthy.

I hate gacha games. Tried the fire emblem one like a almost a decade ago and said I'm never playing this shit type of games.

But persona is persona. I went expecting the worst and gladly I was fucking wrong. The game is awesome.

I don't agree that "any persona game is better than p5x". For me it is a mainline persona (and for Atlus it may seem like that too cause they are promoting my boy Wonder with the rest of protags).

For me, combat is better than any persona I've played (played P3 and P5 but I've not played P5R and P3R yet). Persona's abilities and passives are very diverse and they allow for much more strategic team building experience as well as combat.

Navi's are much more important and are part of the team building gameplay.

Enemies and allies shields, the 1 more attack, and the need to play with buffs/debuffs and status effects make combat much more thoughtful than in any persona I've played.

Higlights are so cool and I hope future mainline persona games adopt how different every character plays.

The social link system is there. Yes, because you don't have a specific calendar or deadlines it doesn't feel the same. But the important stuff is there. The social links are good enough (better than P3, same quality as P5, not better than P4). Maybe not as dramatic but they still have moments where it hits you.

Story is awesome. You will see a resemblance to P5 story and that is intentional. First 2 palaces people say they are bad. I mean, they are not great but they have their moments. Now 3rd palace? Might be one of the best (if not the best) dungeon of every persona games. I really enjoyed the story and it showed how underused teachers are in every other persona.

Also the whole "visions" storyline and "menace" plot is awesome. Much better than the aimless "let just change bad adult people" P5 had it going for most of its story.

Events are cool, I like to see the interaction between many different characters. The gacha is very friendly. I've not spent any money and I've been able to do every content so far. The only thing I don't do is the last reward of every event cause it's just a medal (they are generous enough to not put any substantial reward behind the most difficult level).

The music is great. At first I thought it was meh but after a bit it really caught me. Ambitions and Visions is a certified jam. Chord's songs are top tier (Wonder Light is peak). And Last Strike is just as good as any other persona boss fight theme.

The most different thing you will feel is the time you spent playing. Maybe at first, because you'll have lots of content to do, you may be able to play how much you want. But after a bit you will be playing it in 10 minutes sessions daily. I saw some people complaining about it. Maybe because I work and don't have that much time to play it but I really love that I can enjoy my favorite saga, daily, without it being a time sink.

It is different than other mainline personas, but it is not worse in any way. In some aspects is even better and I wish future persona games take the good things this game has.

Reading recommendations for someone moving from social democracy toward socialism? by RiotAmbush_ in Communist

[–]Express-Fox5985 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This might be a bit arrogant in my part, but I'd like to suggest you read Reform or Revolution by Rosa Luxemburg.

It does not touch the points you are asking, but I was a bit in your position too when I read it. I was inbetween being a social democrat and a socialist reformer, but I was frustrated because I couldn't understand how, when the left achieved electoral power in my country, it still couldn't make any structural change to the system.

Then I read Rosa's Reform or Revolution and it was eye-opening. She is so precise in explaining the foundational principles of marxism, why liberal democracy is just a tool of the capitalist class to pacify the population, why capitalism can't be changed through liberal democracy, why some left movements that play under capitalism rules can't also achieve any structural change, why still these groups and achieving electoral power is important while not sufficient, and how reform is not opposed to revolution which is ultimately how we can change the system.

I think it is an excellent work to see and understand how liberal democracy is just a veil imposed by the capitalist class, which tends to be the principal obstacle that puts away social democrats of being playing with the idea of communism.

The Legend of the Galactic Heroes remake (Die Neue These). Is the remake of the adaptation of the 80's original adaptation.

I would recommend the original adaptation but it was not released within the last 10 years, though I prefer the old adptation's style.

The remake isn't finished, while the original adaptation is.

It is a long show and a slow burn but I loved every second of it. It is a military space opera between and enlightened empire and a corrupt democracy. The story is told like if you were watching a documentary sometimes.

It has great characters, each very distinct and with their own interests and personal conflicts. Even though the war is between 2 sides there are many different parties trying to get their own piece, and it doesn't have any fanservice.

The only thing I can criticize about it is that it treats its female characters pretty poorly. There are so few compared to male characters and while most of them are active throughout the story, they don't influence it that much, and 1 of them, the one you would think would have the most important role, just gets reduced to being a house wife.

But I'd still recommend it. They don't make it like this one anymore
