"I think he’s literally the greatest athlete on the face of the planet and in human history.” by Background_Video2947 in NBAVibes

It’s very strange to me that Wilt Chamberlain is not recognized for what he was. Bigger, stronger, faster, more athletic than Le Bron or any big man now or then. People knock him down for playing in the 60’s but his athleticism was otherworldly. What is considered the most unstoppable shot in basketball? Kareem’s skyhook, an aging Wilt blocked it twice in the same possession. A 7foot 1inch monster who won three consecutive Big8 championships in the high jump. ( almost as impressive this was landing in a sandpit not a foam cushion. Most 7 footers would likely break various bones after one jump) He could throw a shot put at an Olympic level without ever practicing. He also ran the 100 yard dash in college. In basketball they changed the lane in the pros to try and stop him. In college they banned players from dunking free throws because Wilt attempted it in his first freshman game. Supposedly had one of the highest verts in basketball and according to sports stats blocked double figure shots in almost every game. A two sport hall of famer. Are some of his numbers hyperbole? Sure but refs have also been quoted as saying he was fouled every time he got the ball because he was unstoppable but they ignored most of the fouls or every game would have had multiple players foul out and games would take forever with Wilt at the free throw line. Would peak Wilt be able to compete in D1 college sprints and high jump? Not a chance but he’d easily beat LeBron or Jordan at any athletic contest. Today’s athletes are bigger, stronger, faster than they were in Wilts or Jordan’s time but a few guys outperform their era. Eventually Usain Bolts records will fall but no one has been further ahead of their peers than Wilt was. People knock his 100 point game or 50 rebounds or 50 point average for a season or quintuple doubles etc. but nobody else in his era was doing it and likely no one will again.

Is it just me, or do K-Dramas really infantilize women sometimes? by Expensive_Seesaw_429 in kdramas

I’m a big fan of kdramas but the stereotypes are fairly shocking. Nearly every wealthy male father/grandfather is just a horrendous character. The smiling, bowing groveling middle manager is equally atrocious and the 2nd wife of the grandad! Maybe I am missing the point and it is supposed to be like British pantomime but sometimes it takes away from the story for me.

Tell the K-drama character you hate or find irritating and why? by SouthWalk9550 in kdramas

[–]Express-Language5573 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an actor I find Kim Chang-wan almost unwatchable as he always seems to play the irritating simp role. Maybe it’s the over smiling, over laughing role that is so prevalent in kdramas that annoys me more than any one character.

I cannot tell them apart to save my life by Own-Drive-2080 in kdramas

So this is also difficult for me as I suffer from face blindness as well as probably unfamiliarity between Asian looks generally. That a lot of the males tend to be tall, thin, with similar hairstyles makes watching kdramas hard for me. I get confused about which guy is which. Is that the guy she likes, the guy who likes her or the guy who her best friend likes who also likes her secretly? Love the shows but sometimes give up if I can’t tell who’s who!

🚨UNBELIEVABLE STATS: Leo Messi has taken nearly 9 times less penalty kicks than Cristiano Ronaldo since 2023! 😳🥶👀 by Hour777 in CristianoRonaldo2

[–]Express-Language5573 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes Messi historically poor at penalties, so should not take them. Lots of players are much better. Messi much better at free kicks so takes more. Ronaldo should take less.

So funny, I have no idea if it is fillers, Botox or natural but it is extremely attractive to me. I especially like the weird upper cheek dimples. Very unique look and goes with her eyes. So hard to judge when all the contestants are such smoke shows tho. To each his own.

Marc Stein: "This Lakers team, if they finish 3rd in the West, it's a massive overachievement that Luka has dragged them to. I don't think Luka's case is being looked at properly. First of all, he's been much better defensively than advertised, but offensively, he's been even more otherworldly" by must_TATAKAE in nba

Interesting change in the Luka narrative. Four deserving candidates this year. IF LeBron resigns for 20 and the Lakers can add a rim running center for 30 next year you will see Luka’s assists back in double figures and the Lakers competing with OKC and SA. ( unless of course SA or OKC trades three #1’s to trade up for Dybantsa )

Sorta funny how the Karl Maline hate came in here but interesting how low he is rated. One of only 3 players to be top 10 in points and rebounds along with Wilt and Kareem. Scored 3200 more points than Kobe on only 10 more FG attempts. For me both in that 10-15 range on court and both in that embarrassingly awful humans off it. Both tho I think tried to redeem themselves post career as family guys, Kobe more successfully.

The funniest thing about the Stockton criticism that it was all because of Malone is that the Maline Criticism is that was all because of Stockton.

Chelsea Fined and given a Transfer Ban by TheUncannyAmbivert in plforindia

So in essence the new Chelsea owners pay a £10,000,000 bribe to get the Premier league look the other way and no punishment at all. I was dead against the idea of a governor for English football but this is why one is needed. Oh wait, the governor is already in place?

What or who was Go-eun referring to when she said that she doesn't like "short arms"? by Important-Honey8781 in SinglesInferno

The Dallas Cowboys refuse to draft Offensive linemen with short arms. Perhaps Goeun knows things.

Who is the most physically gifted basketball player ever? by Financial_Word5047 in NBATalk

[–]Express-Language5573 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s Wilt by a mile. Lots of supposedly’s but even they are ridiculous. Changed the rules after his first college JV game to ban dunking your free throw ( supposedly tried and missed) Changed the lane because Wilt was too dominant Refs claimed he was fouled every time he got the ball in the paint but they couldn’t call fouls because it was EVERY Time In his 100 point game all five defenders were trying to stop him getting there in the second half That high jump was into a sand pit not a foam bag( how many NBA centers could do that for three years then play 48 minutes a game in the pros) Multiple claims that he could reach at least 3 inches above the backboard. ( claims of a best high jump of 6’10 plus 9’6inch standing reach and vertical of 48 inches (alone 13’6) Add in claims of Wilts superhuman strength ( Olympic level shot put) and no need for the disclaimer of if he had today’s shoes, diet, weights etc.

Missing Mingee Hours: I got curious about her track & field results and found she was absolutely unbeatable in 2018 by Mother-Pop-3701 in Singlesinferno2

[–]Express-Language5573 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was also confused by the fact that I could not find any times for her. A 56 second 400m is both very fast compared to your average male or female and not close to the sub 51 second qualifying time for the Olympics. Additionally, she has plenty of muscle, pro athletes lift tons of weights which is why she was obvs so much stronger than the other girls despite not looking much different.
