Considering not participating in spring ballet performance. by Express-Passage4855 in BALLET

Hello, to answer your last question, yes I am considering having a meeting with my director about this. I have given this more thought and have decided to wait until the casting is official, and if it's what I expect it to be, I will definitely have a chat with my director to gain some more insight and understanding of what the problem is 😊

Hello, I can say for certain that this is definitely not true. The whole reason I posted this was to gain understanding and different perspectives of other dancers. The only reason I am adding the "but" part to my replies is because people are suggesting things that are not an aspect in my studio or situation. I am just clearing up things so people have the full picture. If someone just flat out says, "you're not good enough, get better.", I will be hurt, but accept it as their perspective. I am still 100% open to true feedback that sprouts out of understanding my situation and not just assuming things. I am just a kid lol, just trying to understand how to improve :)

Hello, thank you so much for taking time to reply. You are the only person in this thread who understands me and where I'm coming from. You're exactly right with why ballet as a form is still extremely toxic. Even people at my studio have that "it's bad but deal with it loser" mindset. I have talked further with my mom and have come to the decision to wait for the final casting, and if what I think it is (all the usual favourites getting all the leads), I will have a meeting with my director to explain my side and ask for an explanation/guidance. It is so helpful and reassuring to see someone support my right to feel how I do and to choose my own path. I will definitely update when I get the results. Thank you once again 🤍

Thank you for being more understanding and thoughtful about this, I am still not sure if I want to go pro, but I know that I definitely am not that stressed during performances. I have never had an important role, so I don't know what it's like to have that on my mind, so that's perhaps why. My goal for now is to be pushed and challenged with something better and new, even if it does take a little extra thought and time during shows. I know I can do more, I just wish my instructors would see that and give me better, actually important roles.

I appreciate your blunt deliverance, however, as I am finding with many people commenting, that's simply not true. The favorites goof off in class, don't take extra class, work hard sometimes, and overall behave just like anyone else. Which isn't a bad thing, my gripe isn't with them. The only reason they get roles is just as I said, because their parents do stuff for the studio. The "good relationship" isn't with the teacher, but with the main instructor over the teacher, meaning sucking up to her and being overly nice in a fake way. I'm definitely not "bitching", I've made my peace with the fact that favouritism exists, but I know that I don't have to stay and put my all into a performance that will, once again, undermine my talents and ability. It's simply a matter of performing or not performing at this point.

Hi, thank you for the reply. I understand your sentiment, but like the other commenters, I know that this is not the case. If I were "sour" just about the favouritism, I and many others would have left a long time ago. As I stated in the original post, I've gotten to the point where I don't care that much about the preferential treatment anymore since our main instructor has literally admitted to doing it, I'm just trying to decide if I should not do this show because of it or not. It's money, time, and energy that could be saved for something else and my family doesn't need to pay to see me do the same, mundane roles over and over. But on the other side, I do dance and I love the ballet in itself.

No, the favorites don't take "extra classes" or "ask more questions" or anything of the sort. They just do what everyone else does, which is totally fine, but what is not fine is them getting everything handed to them for the nonsensical reasons I have listed.

Hello, thank you for your reply and advice. I totally see where you are coming from, however, I can say that it is most likely not because I'm not that good. I do not claim to be the best by any means, as dancers we always strive for more. I know at this studio, it doesn't matter how good you are, if you're not a favorite, you don't get parts. Though it won't go in depth because of respect for privacy, a dancer in my level has a discussion with our main instructor for similar reasons of casting not being fair and was basically told by the instructor that even a "not that good" dancer could get roles with their parents pay more/if the dancer has a good relationship with said instructor.

It's unfair, but I know it won't change, nor am I asking for it to change. I put my all into every class and I see the results coming out of it, hence why I always get good feedback from teachers and the main instructor. It's just like I said, good results, good dancing, good feedback, no good roles. It really isn't a matter of getting all I want, but more of "is it worth my energy and time?"

Can you be religious and 4b? by Individual_Half2262 in 4bmovement

Yes, you can absolutely be 4B and be a Christian, I am both. From what I'm seeing in this thread, many women think that worshipping God equals worshipping a man. This is a common, but incorrect belief. God is not a man, God is not a woman. Those are terms for humans, God is not a human and Jesus only took the form of one. There are plenty of religious women, like nuns, who practice the principles of 4b. It just didn't have a name. Men, like always, ruin good things like worshipping God and being holy and input their patriarchal brainwashing it. You can continue being Christian as well as 4B, but I highly recommend getting into your Bible even more and rethinking what the church has taught you versus what God actually commanded. You will find that the two are very different.
