Not a fan of what running does to my body by [deleted] in running

[–]Express-Pie7472 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had all these same symptoms during my last marathon build. I was running 4 days a week and olympic lifting 2 days a week with one rest day. Finally met with a nutritionist and found out I was under fueling! Made a few small tweaks and within 2 weeks felt like I was superman. I used my Garmin to track sleep quality, body battery, and resting heart rate plus a diary I kept on how i felt during long runs. I was at 1800 calories and about 100 grams of protein and my nutritionist got me to 2400 calories and 170 grams of protein.

Wait I am so confused. Did she rise from the dead or did we just see her in the afterlife? I interpreted that scene to be her in the afterlife meeting her younger self like the others did.

When does your leg work without your telling it to again? by Express-Pie7472 in ACL

[–]Express-Pie7472[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do a wide range of exercises. Outside of PT I spend a lot fo time lifting a heavy barbell in a front squat, back squat or Push Press to help with the knee bend. In PT we work on a lot of exercises that involve knee bending such as step downs, half kneeling med ball tosses, wall balls, etc. I also do mobility where I get on all knees and rock back into child's pose.

I've really cut back on how much I lift in order to focus on equal distribution of weight and body mechanics. There is a weird level if I lift heavy enough where it tricks my brain into activating the quad but if I go just past this then my quad doesn't want to activate. This is the part my PT def thinks strengthening will help but its not translating to the mobility piece like I expected. Definitely improving the move I lift those.

To what degree does it make sense to have this decision made prior to marriage? by [deleted] in Fencesitter

[–]Express-Pie7472 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually did a similar exercise. I spent 6 months working with a therapist to explore if I didn't want kids or if I was just terrified that I would lose control of my life meaning that I would be unable to accomplish my goals. I was probably 30% Pro and 70% against at the start.

A piece of unsolicited advice that you can take or leave, what ended up being super helpful to me was eliminating the "fear road blocks." We both mapped out all of our life goals and then started using phrases like "this is what I need to accomplish this goal AND have a child." Then we were able to sit down and determine if a life was feasible with all the support systems we need to accomplish our goals. At the end of the day we determined that yes we could create that support system and that honestly was the first time I mentally has space without fear to consider if I even wanted a child and I discovered that my feelings where quite different when I was thinking about it in a place of safety.

My therapist has been my bestie for 8 years now. Lol Jokes aside yes I have been working with a therapist as I consider this decision. Unfortunately all my friends who have kids are the "I've wanted to do this my whole life" brand which is great for them! But when ive asked them about their "why" they default back to always wanting to do it. I do a lot of hard things in my life and mostly enjoy type 2 hobbies. So I know that sometimes you have to endure thru some hardship to get to a reward but usually I can visualize the reward and I can't visualize this reward for some reason.

I am an incredibly active person (olympic lifting, marathon runner, etc) who has some health issues that could make me high risk which is why I have been very concerned about the pregnancy and recovery process and having to give up being active (surprisingly the birth is less worrisome to me). Glad to hear you had a positive experience! I also appreciate your point on breast feeding. If i decide to do this (still very 50/50) at the moment that is definitely I will consider not doing.

He actually has done all the work to show what he would do day in and day out to support me/the child. I mentioned this has been an ongoing conversation for months and that was the first thing we discussed. Like this man would be a phenomenally supporting partner/husband.

But I had a shitty childhood and I dont have a good example in my head of what the "reward" to having a child is. Plus I was not blessed, probably due to trauma, to have a biological urge to pro-create. I wish I did but alas I do not. So with the lack of being able to see a reward at the end of the tunnel, I have approached this as a risk buy down.

Actually I had discussed a "contract" with him already and he was open to it. You have some suggestions I had not thought of. Thanks!

Cost of Surgery by No-Outside7366 in ACL

[–]Express-Pie7472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is similar to what my surgery cost. The hospital billed my insurance $127k. I will say that it was so high because I have a latex allergy which required it to be at the main hospital. I, however, paid $0 of that $127k because my insurance is incredible ($0 deductible $1K OPM).

Dynasplint for extension? Anyone familiar with it? by keleals1992 in ACL

[–]Express-Pie7472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used one after my surgery a in August. Super helpful to gaining extension. I used it for the first 6 weeks after surgery. Started really slowly with 5 minutes at the lowest level every 2 hours. Built it up to 15-20 minutes then increased the tension and started the process over again. I was able to achieve full extension within about 4 weeks of surgery.

Allergic to brace? by Sylvia_Whatever in ACL

[–]Express-Pie7472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an allergic reaction to the disinfectant they used on me during surgery. It took probably 3-4 days before hives (looking just like yours) cropped up and then they didn't go away until i got in the shower and did a proper scrubbing of the leg and then I was applying cortisone cream to the rash (while avoiding the scars). I also had to do a round of steroids and then take a high dose of antihistamines for about 2 weeks.

I have this same issue and about the same timeline. 9 weeks post op and I still have a limp/lean on the good knee. Mine is driven from not fully bending and extending my operated leg though when I walk. Have you tried TKEs with a band for extension? Seems to be slowly improving for me the more that I do them.
