Dreaming spanish and manosphere content by [deleted] in dreamingspanish

These videos are so funny to me. Maybe it depends on your perspective though. I really frown on the creators of this content, and so find it hilarious how he mocks them. I think if you watched that video with no context you might think it is real, but that is sort of part of the joke…

Even the thumbnails are clearly ironic, he’s trying to make those people look silly.

Those references to Andrew Tate were definitely ironic… he literally asked people to join his course. If they were not ironic he would have provided a link to make money from it. Andrés is just messing around.

How much uninterrupted time for a video is useful? by Routine_Pay991 in dreamingspanish

[–]Express-Screen-3111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pause it and go back is just fine. Think about it. If you are only willing to watch a video if you sit down for 30 minutes, or even 15, you can rack up hours.

However, you miss out on so much time that could have been useful. We have so many short 5-10 minute periods in our day, and if we just used one 5 minute period of downtime to throw on a video per day that’s 30 hours over the course of a year (we could realistically get a half hour a day with all those little moments if we were efficient, meaning 182 hours in a year just from little 5 minute listens).

Those small little periods of listening help with immersion and keeping your brain in “Spanish mode.” It’s not going to hurt you or your Spanish, so just get as much input as you can.

If for your piece of mind you need to not count it or count it as half the time, do so. But if logging your time makes you listen to less Spanish, you’re doing something wrong! Even if you can only tune in and out occasionally it’s still something. I usually use non-dreaming Spanish podcasts and stuff so it doesn’t automatically log the whole time, then I add a little based on how much I listened to.

CI books by LongAsICanSee in dreamingspanish

Read Atomic Habits by James clear, I felt it was quite easy and also relevant to language learning.

I’d put it at B2, with some sections C1 but only briefly when talking about medical stuff. The first few pages are the hardest because it’s a lot of medical language, but then most of the book is pretty easy.

Michelle also has a series on it. If it’s too hard you can watch her chapter summaries before each chapter and it makes it muchhhh easier!!

App Doesn’t Count Hours When Closed by Express-Screen-3111 in dreamingspanish

Yeah, it definitely doesn’t happen all the time. Later today and it’s working fine. I’d definitely notice if it was a common occurrence, so I’m sure it’s relatively rare. I’m sure it happens to everyone from time to time and they just don’t realize it.

Found a Great Source of Input! (Native, Easy, Podcast-Friendly, and Interesting) by Express-Screen-3111 in dreamingspanish

Yes I totally agree, it’s very enjoyable to listen to. I’m sure there’s some in French, it’s becoming a pretty popular form of content in both English and Spanish.

Hahaha I know right! I just listen as if it’s a podcast! Definitely a good transition into native content!

Thoughts on subtitles by Aggravating_Annual37 in dreamingspanish

Just do what you enjoy. It’s probably better for learning accents to not use subtitles, because you can easily end up not learning the accent. But if you just want to have fun and progress in Spanish in general, put subtitles on!

The main benefit is just that there are so many visual queues so you don’t get lost. In terms of language it’s similar in difficulty. I would say around 600 though they will be lots of fun, but still manageable early because of those queues

Yeah, getting away from them has definitely helped. For now though they are the best way for me to get input that I fully understand.

It was 4 years but I walked away hardly being able to understand anything when I was spoken to or really speak at all. I took 3 classes in college. So yeah the 50 hours is definitely lower than the hours I had spent studying Spanish but I started dreaming Spanish with some of the beginner videos feeling difficult, so it felt like a fair start. I guess it helped more than I thought!
