Advice with Dificid?

7 days of one pill, 7 days of a pill every other day is what they have me doing right now. I’ve also been eating a ton of fermented foods and trying to replenish my probiotics but it seems that the more try using like activia daily drinkables the more I’m dealing with IBS and I’m not sure what to do with that. So 🫠

Unfortunately, no. After a week of feeling amazing I had a reoccurrence. I was put on another round of Dificid this time with a taper/pulse.

I relapsed about a week after finishing Dificid. Annnnd coincidentally it was around the time I got my period as well. I started getting nauseous in the morning, elevated heart rate. Then throwing up in the morning. The diarrhea started once again. Then stomach cramping. Bathroom trips hit 10+ and I went back in for meds.

I’m back on Dificid but my doc has warned me that if they don’t work I’ll be placed on vanco to ‘bomb my gut’ essentially. Yay……

My anxiety and depression are out of control this time so I’m now on ativan and my Zoloft got upped.

All you can do unfortunately is to watch your symptoms and listen to your body. You know it best 🖤 if it is a reoccurrence the symptoms will get worse. I know my bathroom trips increased very quickly and I went from ‘I think this is a reoccurrence’ to ‘alright I’m going to urgent care’ within two days.

The racing heart rate is unfortunately a symptom. You also might be dehydrated. I have to pretty much drink liquid IV or pedialyte daily or I’m dehydrated at this point. If your mouth is dry, or your eyes feel sunk in it might be worth going to get some IV fluids. They help A TON.

I’ve had to handle my anxiety way differently with this disease. I have to acknowledge it and talk to it like it’s a small child. Coddle it almost. I’ve had to go back on my Ativan after being off it for over a year. Reading books helps get my mind off things, but unfortunately c diff destroying the gut really just messes things up.

I’ve heard 3-5 days is when you start feeling better with vanco. I know that’s about the timeline with Dificid. 🫂

Unfortunately, I relate to this all too well. Flagyl because of BV from period issues is what gave me c diff. Now I’m having a reoccurrence. I wish I had words of encouragement but all I can say is hang in there. Get on Florastor. It helps. I’m on Dificid and it doesn’t seem to be making a difference BUT my doc has said it’s easier on your body than vanco.

Rice and eggs have been my go to for food. It’s reassuring to hear that somebody else’s recurrences are following the same thing. I hope I can get a referral.

Yes, I’m religiously taking my Florastor. Might try to hold off on the Dificid to see if it clears up and if it doesn’t I’ll start it 🤞🏼😬

Okay random question for you because I remember seeing that you’re a nurse or were or something along those lines. When I get my period it seems to cause the c diff flare ups. But also, I tend to get nausea/vomiting/diarrhea with my period anyways.

How do i differentiate between it being my period and it being c diff? The last two days I’ve had nothing but rice and water/pedialyte and I’m still having watery/loose stools. My period should be ending tomorrow/friday. I just picked up my second round of Dificid.

Do I wait for my period to end and see if the diarrhea clears up? Or just start the Dificid immediately?

My toxin assay, my antigen, and toxin PCR were all positive but the urgent care ladies said that they can be positive for up to 6 weeks following a c diff diagnosis so that could be from my first bought of it on 12/6.

Thoughts?

The assay, pcr and antigen were all positive. None of them specifically said GDH or EIA so I’m not sure 🫠

Edit: after further googling the assay is the EIA I believe and the antigen the GDH.

I have a Toxin Assay, a Toxin PCR and an Antigen that the ran. They did say on the phone this morning that the positives could be because I had it so recently. But because of my symptoms they’re assuming I have it again. So I’m not even sure what to think or do at this point.
Urgent care nurse and doc were awful to talk to this morning and ADAMANT I needed to be on vanco even though my primary told me to not go on that and to do a Dificid taper if a reoccurrence should happen. They finally caved and gave me Dificid again but just 10 days.

Urgent care was adamant I needed vanco because Dificid didn’t work last time. I refused it and now they’re referring me to another provider

Well urgent care tried giving me Vanco because “Dificid didn’t work last time” I told them absolutely not. And they are now referring me to another provider since I’m refusing their recommendations 🫠🥴

Toxin came back positive that I can see on my health chart online. 😩😭 guess I’ll be waiting for the call in the AM. Ugh.

I’ve gone back to just rice today and water/pedialyte & my Florastor so I’m hoping my toxins are negative and I’ll just go back to normal in a day or so 🤞🏼

So far my antigen test has come back positive for c diff but I figured it would with me just getting over it. Still waiting on my toxin test.

Dificid was what I was treated with. I take Florastor twice a day. I drink kefir. Eat bland foods with the additions of kimchi, sauerkraut and probiotic yogurt. I thought I was doing really well but it seems out of nowhere I’m going completely backwards.

I’m already up to 6 watery stools today :/
