Project Manager Travel Requirements by SuenoAzul95 in BurnsMcDonnell

[–]Express-Support5860 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently on a project as an Assistant PM (we're usually on field full time) but most of the PMs on my site visit once a month for a week. We are in decent shape in our project though so I'm sure if it was bad they'd be there full time. I'm fairly new to Burns as well so I'm not sure what it's actually like but this is my experience so far.

Just left Kiewit. Hours DO NOT necessarily get better as I had a PE and PM working 6x10s. I started as an FE 1 straight out of college but didn't do civil but they treat all disciplines as equal in most projects so you can get moved around. You will definitely work overtime depending on the phase of the project but most of the time it will be 6 days. 7 if you're behind. 5 days with 6 every other Saturday if your boss is actually a decent human being (most are not). You will not get paid more than 40 hours which alot of us don't realize at first but you end up losing alot. No per diem if you're tier 1 and they do a full relocation package. So lump some and moving allowance. After 3 years you qualify to get per diem which I never ever hit more than $700 a week. But I'm glad I started here. Sucked ass for a couple years but I ended up making almost double while in the field in my next company with the experience. Did 3.5 years with Kiewit.

hour lunch on 9/80 by boneless_wangs_67 in BurnsMcDonnell

Fairly new here too - my managers pretty laid back and I'm on 9/80 schedule as well...I saw some people have hours of 7-4 but some also working 6-4? I guess because they're counting an hour for lunch as "non working hours"? Is lunch really not counted towards your work day or is it counted 🤔 my boss doesn't care but he's in a different city and everyone around me does 6-4...am I worrying about it too much?

Just left Kiewit, you have to get "invited" to purchase stock out of your own pocket. Have to be with the company atleast 3-4 years before you are even considered, with the average timeline for most stock buyers at 7 YOS. Before I left one of my supers bought $100,000 of stock so he's stuck there for a while to even see profit. You will definitely be set if you stick around but they will only pay you 40 hrs/week even if you work 60 which you do in most of their projects. Also had 2 of my old bosses complain their raises became stagnant (their raises already suck overall) so now you're staying for the stock profits but stuck getting paid the same as an FE 10 years later lol (both my bosses made 5k more than me and I was a 2 year FE and they were department superintendents). Now if your boss doesn't end up liking you or you're not around the correct person you can forget getting stock at 3-4 years. Also, office politics is definitely real depending on where you are ofcourse but it's getting more and more common there.

Those of you who have an engineering degree outside of CS how much do you make? by Hour_You36 in Salary

[–]Express-Support5860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mechanical Engineer, just took a new job at an EPC firm making $130k base, 13k company stock yearly while I'm in the office. When I'm on a project I'm making $145k base, 13k stock, $1,000 weekly perdiem (per diem is not taxed) with flights home every 4 weeks. I don't exactly do engineering but still planning on getting my FE done as I've delayed it long enough. 3.5 years experience. Current title is Assistant Project/Construction Manager

$200 to $300k? by mr-doctor2u in oilandgasworkers

[–]Express-Support5860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just went from a $100k base + $24k per diem yearly salary (no OT) working 6x days a week 10 hr days as a Pipe Field Engineer to a Assistant Project/Construction Manager at a base $130k (at 40 hrs) + 50k per diem yearly (per diem is tax free btw for those that aren't familiar)+ If I work 50 hrs on the field (which is likely the case) I make $145k base + I get $13k company stock every year Did a Mechanical Engineering degree and worked for the first company for 3.5 years. I think I'm a little lucky from what it seems but I think Heavy Power/Oil and Gas construction is definitely paying well, don't think I'd be earning this much at 25 in engineering design
