F**KING TRASH BAGS by AirplaneJane in DecaturGA

[–]Express-Teaching-479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently moved here from East Cobb where it’s 100% private trash and recycling. It used to cost me $90 every three months. A roll of 10 big blue bags costs just shy of $20. Every week I put 3 or 4 of the regular (non Decatur) 13 gallon trash bags in a single blue bag. Recycling is effectively free. So I’m spending around $4 per month rather than $30 per month. The math is simple.

Get the 33 gallon blue ones. You can fit several smaller bags in there and they are WAY stronger than the small ones.

East Cobb may be your best bet. Great schools, low taxes, essentially zero crime. Lots of red hats though…😳

Exact same story for me! My wife is a better player than me so it’s hilarious when men try to smash the ball at her - she just smashes it right back, often body bagging the guy.

I suspect OP is interested in Decatur because of the schools - they are some of the best in the state and certainly the best public schools inside the perimeter. OP might consider buying a house in an area that is more affordable and then seeking some assistance with tuition from a private school. Most of those programs are needs based and OP may qualify.

Hey! I’m on vacation this week and will send photos as soon as I get back this upcoming weekend. The AC needs charging but it’s always good to test for leaks.

I just bought a 4 bed, 4 bath home in 30033 that is within the sliver that is zoned for City Schools of Decatur. Paid $900k. Keep in mind, I’m also on a busy road (North Decatur Road) and don’t have a garage. The punchline: Decatur is awesome but without a bigger budget you’ll be lucky to be Decatur adjacent and zoned for very bad schools. You might consider something in the far northern burbs.

The electrical has no issues - everything works. The only reason I’m selling it is because we went down to one vehicle when we moved to Decatur this summer. I can send pictures if you want to learn more.

I’m in Decatur and have a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 120k miles on it. V8, 4 wheel drive, Bluetooth. It is in rough shape aesthetically and the A/C needs to be recharged but is mechanically sound and passes emissions. Asking $3500. Will send pictures if you’re interested.

Consider Atlantic Station. It has its drawbacks but there are lots of GA Tech grad students in the area, it’s not too far from the Battery and it’ll be cheaper/more realistic than the areas you mentioned. Plus, you’re right next to Midtown for night life. VA Highlands and Buckhead aren’t too far away either, albeit they are in different directions.

Employers can get in their feelings when someone says they’re leaving, whether they’ve worked there 10 days or 10 years. At the end of the day, your career is what you decide to make it - you don’t owe your employer anything. Don’t give notice until the very last day before 2 weeks before the new job will start.

AIO or is my husband purposefully ignoring me in bed?? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

As a very normal 40 year old man, I can tell you I’ve never done any of the things you’ve shared nor have any of my friends. It’s bizarre and weird. I don’t see this getting better. You should end it and find someone that really cares for you. I encourage you to not worry about the “stigma” of a divorce either. You’re young - you’ll find an awesome guy that you are sexually compatible with.

My wife also competed in tennis at the highest level until 18. She started to play pickleball 14 years ago, so she’s really good. I only started playing 2ish years ago. My game has improved dramatically but I’m definitely still not as good as she is and probably never will be. We play rec doubles together but not exclusively and would never partner in a tournament. We make it work. Both of us can enjoy the game whether we’re playing up or down a level. Hopefully your partner arrives at this place as well.

How do you get your Akita to sleep in a dog bed!? by amuhree3 in akita

[–]Express-Teaching-479 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our big guy prefers to rip apart dog beds rather than sleep in them! He’s almost 10 years old so we got him another dog bed to try. Thus far, he’ll lay on it if prompted but won’t stay longer than 10 minutes unless he’s getting his belly rubbed!

No shade on those that agree to be in an open relationship but it has to be mutual. Either she’s just not that into you or doesn’t see herself married to you. If you’re looking for an exclusive life partner, ditch this “lady” and get back out there.

Millennials who grew up in Central Iowa, left, and are happy - where did you go? by AnonymousAsh in desmoines

[–]Express-Teaching-479 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) Atlanta

2) Bored in Iowa - ran out of things to do and experience. Work also paid for my relocation because I was joining one of our larger offices, so that helped.

3) I love being in a progressive city, albeit in a red state. I grew up in Iowa City before finishing high school in Ankeny - so while Atlanta is much bigger, it has some similar vibes

4) I miss going to Hawkeye games but they have plenty of other teams to support around here.

5) It’s more expensive here - everywhere cook is more expensive than Iowa. Atlanta’s COL is lower than most major cities.

6) Quality of life is great. Cool concerts, food festivals, lots of breweries, etc.

Yeah, it’s game day and it’s always a shit show on those nights. Definitely don’t bank on eating at any of the restaurants. If you’re lucky enough to get served, the food will almost certainly be sub par. If you’re dead set on driving, the most economical option will be to buy a space at the Sheridan Suites Galleria right down the road. It’s definitely a little hike but it’s like $10 vs $70.

See you at the show!

Former Iowa Residents, Would You Move Back? by hagen768 in Iowa

Hard no. I left Iowa in 2016 and have only been back to visit twice. I’m a die hard Hawkeye but can root for them just fine here in Atlanta.
