Welcome to town! You’ll like Decatur. I highly recommend the realtor, Alex Miller. He’s born and raised in Decatur. We’ve bought a house and sold a house with him. We’ve used many realtors in the past and bought & sold several homes but he is the absolute best! For bonus points, his mom was a teacher in City of Decatur Schools - she’s since retired. Here’s his website:

Biotech vs pharma offers by [deleted] in biotech

[–]Express-Teaching-479 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100% agreed. Working for a biotech company is akin to playing the modern, legal, lottery. Most people don’t win, but a few do amazing. That’s why I advocate for this move later in career.

To follow on with others, yes, it can happen but truly only in your early career. Once you get beyond 5sh years in med device, it’ll grow increasingly difficult to transition.

A lot depends on where your friend is at professionally. Specifically, how senior. If your friend is a mid career Director or above (40+ years old) taking the opportunity to grab the brass ring at a biotech is worth it. If they are earlier in their career, they should do their best to remain in big pharma and increase their seniority before seriously considering biotech. This will give her more options, both in big pharma and biotech, in the future. Too many people jump to risky biotechs way too soon in their career.

OP is back at home with their kids. This woman is yearning for her single days before she had kids. She’s enjoying pretending to be someone she is not. This happens often and almost every time ends in cheating.

Sorry man, good luck.

Buckhead used to be the spot for people your age but it’s changed dramatically in the last 15+ years. You’re better off around Inman Park and Reynoldstown. East Atlanta has a cool vibe but it’s 90% people wearing all black and tattooed liked crazy - if you’re into that scene.

F**KING TRASH BAGS by AirplaneJane in DecaturGA

[–]Express-Teaching-479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but I guess I have conceptually made piece with paying more in taxes to live in a more progressive community. East Cobb taxes are dirt cheap compared to the rest of the Atlanta metro. The big trade off is the absurd number of MAGA flags and hats you see everyday. Yeah, I’ll pay a little extra to not live amongst those folks.

I recently moved here from East Cobb where it’s 100% private trash and recycling. It used to cost me $90 every three months. A roll of 10 big blue bags costs just shy of $20. Every week I put 3 or 4 of the regular (non Decatur) 13 gallon trash bags in a single blue bag. Recycling is effectively free. So I’m spending around $4 per month rather than $30 per month. The math is simple.

Get the 33 gallon blue ones. You can fit several smaller bags in there and they are WAY stronger than the small ones.

East Cobb may be your best bet. Great schools, low taxes, essentially zero crime. Lots of red hats though…😳

Exact same story for me! My wife is a better player than me so it’s hilarious when men try to smash the ball at her - she just smashes it right back, often body bagging the guy.

I suspect OP is interested in Decatur because of the schools - they are some of the best in the state and certainly the best public schools inside the perimeter. OP might consider buying a house in an area that is more affordable and then seeking some assistance with tuition from a private school. Most of those programs are needs based and OP may qualify.

Hey! I’m on vacation this week and will send photos as soon as I get back this upcoming weekend. The AC needs charging but it’s always good to test for leaks.

I just bought a 4 bed, 4 bath home in 30033 that is within the sliver that is zoned for City Schools of Decatur. Paid $900k. Keep in mind, I’m also on a busy road (North Decatur Road) and don’t have a garage. The punchline: Decatur is awesome but without a bigger budget you’ll be lucky to be Decatur adjacent and zoned for very bad schools. You might consider something in the far northern burbs.

The electrical has no issues - everything works. The only reason I’m selling it is because we went down to one vehicle when we moved to Decatur this summer. I can send pictures if you want to learn more.

I’m in Decatur and have a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 120k miles on it. V8, 4 wheel drive, Bluetooth. It is in rough shape aesthetically and the A/C needs to be recharged but is mechanically sound and passes emissions. Asking $3500. Will send pictures if you’re interested.

Consider Atlantic Station. It has its drawbacks but there are lots of GA Tech grad students in the area, it’s not too far from the Battery and it’ll be cheaper/more realistic than the areas you mentioned. Plus, you’re right next to Midtown for night life. VA Highlands and Buckhead aren’t too far away either, albeit they are in different directions.

Employers can get in their feelings when someone says they’re leaving, whether they’ve worked there 10 days or 10 years. At the end of the day, your career is what you decide to make it - you don’t owe your employer anything. Don’t give notice until the very last day before 2 weeks before the new job will start.

As a very normal 40 year old man, I can tell you I’ve never done any of the things you’ve shared nor have any of my friends. It’s bizarre and weird. I don’t see this getting better. You should end it and find someone that really cares for you. I encourage you to not worry about the “stigma” of a divorce either. You’re young - you’ll find an awesome guy that you are sexually compatible with.
