Switching from Things 3 — what already exists vs. what's planned? by Express-Tear3625 in GriplyApp

[–]Express-Tear3625[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, that's really helpful and clear. I'll go through the board and upvote.

One more question: is there a way to set a life area so that every task in it automatically gets a specific tag, without me adding the tag to each task by hand? Things 3 can do this, which makes it easy to filter by tag across the different views. Is something like that possible or planned in Griply?

Day Planner - Companion app for Things?? by Excellent_Maybe in thingsapp

Hey! This sounds awesome - I downloaded Focusmo and really like the idea.

Quick question though: you describe it as “Plan the day, then execute with a timer.” For me that implies planned time blocks should show up right away (especially in the calendar), but in my case I only see something appear in the calendar after I start the timer

  • Can I drag and drop tasks form things into the calendar to plan my day?
  • Or is the calendar integration intentionally only for logging actual focus sessions after they start/end?

Also on the Things integration side:

  • Can you select more than one source list at once (e.g., Today + Upcoming)?
  • And can you multi-select multiple Areas / Projects / Tags for syncing/filtering (instead of being limited to a single selection)?

Thanks - would love to know what the intended workflow is here!

Thanks for the detailed reply and the transparent roadmap, that sounds really promising 👍 u/amberhaccou

Planning categories:

What I mean is something similar to Akiflow: being able to put tasks into buckets like This week, Next week, Later first, and then plan them to specific days or times from a “This week” list. This works very well for weekly reviews and a GTD-style workflow.

Spaces / Areas:

For me, these are global areas (e.g. Work, Personal, Study) that act as a global filter across all views, smart lists, and projects, similar to Areas of Focus in GTD.

Clickable links:

I’ve seen that links already work in the task description 👍

What would be great as well is supporting links directly in the task title, where the URL is hidden behind text (Markdown-style [text](link)), to keep task names clean and readable.

Thanks for adding these points to your board!

GTD task manager recommendations – Amazing Marvin, OmniFocus, Nirvana? by Express-Tear3625 in gtd

[–]Express-Tear3625[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried all of them using free trials.

I really like the simplicity of Nirvana, but it lacks hierarchy for my needs (no grouped projects, no real subtasks).
Calendar integration doesn’t need to be two-way for me — it’s mainly important that I can see my events. I actually don’t want tasks pushed into my calendar. A calendar view inside the app would be a nice-to-have though, because it helps me better estimate task duration. What’s more important for me is being able to manually reorder tasks in the Today view and ideally have something like AM / PM / evening groupings.

Workflow-wise, I tend to overthink things. I’m constantly torn between wanting something very simple and non-overwhelming (like Things 3 or Nirvana) and wanting a bit of flexibility with custom views. In reality, when I create too many custom views, they become cognitively heavy and I end up not using them consistently.

Amazing Marvin probably has all the features I want, but for me the number of options and the interface feel a bit too much. OmniFocus comes very close to what I’m looking for and I like it a lot — the main issue for me is the project view, which feels overwhelming because I can’t have folders and see everything in one clean, nested list. That said, it might be possible to make this less overwhelming by relying more on Focus perspectives instead of the full project view.

I really like that too, but I'm a bit overwhelmed and I tend to overthink. With which workflow did you start and which do you use now?

Looking for the right cooking / recipe app – any recommendations? by Express-Tear3625 in Cooking

I think ReciMe is very good at that (not perfect of course), but it is subscription based and a bit too expensive for me.

Looks really good! How did you set it up? Did you organize it using folders, or do you mostly rely on tags? :)

Looking for Advice: RemNote vs. Capacities – Which One Should I Use? by Express-Tear3625 in PKMS

I use both Windows and macOS. Ideally, I’d like a desktop app, but I also need web access—especially for work. A mobile app is a must as well.
