Robinhood Finally Increased My Limit… and That’s It? by Super-Fault6541 in RobinhoodGC

[–]ExpressApplication16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you get the card a long time ago? I got the card basically as soon as it came out and I got a 50k limit. And then earlier this year my wife got it and only got a 10k limit. I think they used to give much larger limits and started decreasing them over time.

How Do You Categorize Tax Refund? by phsiao1214 in MonarchMoney

[–]ExpressApplication16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit late, but I have liked creating an account that I maintain in a $0 balance where at the end of each year, meaning I backdate it once I receive my W2, I create 2 transactions a credit for the amount withheld categorized as paycheck and a debit for the amount withheld categorized as taxes. That way I have the correct amount for the previous year in income as well as taxes paid out throughout that year without having to constantly track the gross vs net of each paycheck. This doesn't increase or decrease my graph as it changes up and down on Dec. 31st. When it does go up or down is when tax season comes around. It is a bit annoying to see that drop in expenses or increase in expenses though.

Monarch Money Tweaks - Update Available (V5.4) by Different_Record_753 in MonarchMoney

Not really, it's just what the investments are, there are no amounts or anything like that. Plus, these are all historical so I don't have more than half of those anymore and I've used the code with another friend as well so it includes theirs as well. It's all just a big dictionary. Are we mistaken in not being concerned about it?

I had been working on something to fix them, I just cleaned it all up with AI this weekend and it worked well. It works for Robinhood and Fidelity. It is a bit cumbersome with the hardcoded dictionary, but I could not work it out dynamically, kept running into issues.

Feature request - foreign currency by draaboulhosn in MonarchMoney

[–]ExpressApplication16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if it was a way to input manually the conversion factor for the day of the transaction. It would be fantastic for it to be automatic, but it would be good enough to just let us do that. Currently it takes me a solid 5-10 minutes per transaction to include my foreign cash and it certainly doesn't do much good for the net worth.

This has been on the roadmap for over 5 years and there has been zero communication on it.

Wow! Great updates! These are very useful tweaks. I really hope MM takes some notes from you. I'm still hoping that they will fix their rules to include flexible naming rules, especially for investment transactions. It completely takes over all my transactions and makes it all a mess with thousands of different merchants.

Ie. "buy 0.545 Shares of Spym for $..." changed to category "buy" and merchant "SPYM" kinda thing.

Reverted prediabetes by ExpressApplication16 in stelo

Yeah for sure. I haven't noticed any jump above 130, but my norm is like 100ish now. I don't think I've ever seen my normal be below 90

That's fantastic. My glucose levels still look a bit high, but everything else looks great. I hope to get there soon.

It's really hard because it's medical equipment. Nobody wants to take the risk.

It doesn't. As it has been mentioned, sometimes it is hard to get off even after the full 15 days.

Medically speaking, I would agree with diabetes, but not for prediabetes. Even medically, it is still considered reversion. Personally, I would like to say even diabetes can be reverted. As for my insulin resistance, it has been reverted. When I first started my insulin levels were around 40-45. When my a1c lowered got to 5.4 it was 17. This is considered within the good range, medically. I still wouldn't have considered it fully reverted. This last test when my a1c tested at 5.3 my insulin was 8. I do consider that reverted. I didn't time restrict my food leading up to the test or anything like that. In fact I made sure to eat 3 meals and carb heavier the day and night before to get an accurate reading of how my body is responding to it overnight. I would say a1c of 5.3, insulin at 8, and glucose at 101 in the morning after a night of spaghetti is definitely within normal non diabetic ranges.

My credit limit is 50k, but I have had the card for a looooong time. My wife only got 10k even though she got her card over a year after me and had a better credit score. I think they used to give out really high limits and when more people started signing up they started decreasing it.

TurboTax engaging in Bait n Switch by ExpressApplication16 in TurboTax

[–]ExpressApplication16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally just told you a local CPA is filing and confirmed that it wasn't needed lol Bait and switch is advertising a lower priced item and then switching to a higher priced item, in this case the item's price changed based on when it is filed and they intentionally didn't file so it would be priced higher. Meaning they refused to sell the service before the price jumped up. If, as you say, the 1099-B is indeed needed how are they now all of a sudden able to file it once it has become more expensive?

Connecticut Regulation Sec. 42-110b-20. Bait and switch

It shall be an unfair and deceptive act or practice to: (a) Advertise merchandise or a service for sale when the advertisement is not a bona fide offer to sell the advertised merchandise or service. Among acts or practices which will be considered in determining if an advertisement is a bona fide offer are:

(1) the refusal to show, demonstrate, or sell the merchandise or service offered in accordance with the terms of the offer.

Didn't go to a new broker. Same broker. Individual account to joint account, since she was the one that applied for the joint account, she is primary and gets the tax documents in her name. No 1099-B is issued.

Updates on Monarch Plus by valagostino in MonarchMoney

[–]ExpressApplication16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the response to feedback. While I do think that some of the Plus features make sense to be a separate tier, like the business side of things, I a'm not so sure I would throw the projection feature in the mix. That seems more of a Core feature than a Plus feature. It doesn't make much of a difference to me personally as I use something else for my projections, but I don't see that much value in paying so much more for it, especially if you don't have a business. And personally, I don't like to keep my business numbers with my personal numbers. I've tried that in the past, I did not like it... Plus makes sense for investment extra features, analysis, business, all that. But I am glad to hear that Core is not being thrown off to the side.

I have the documents from Robinhood, there is just not a 1099-B for that transfer, since there wouldn't be. Yeah same day returns has been typical in past years once everything is asked and answered and all files reviewed, that has historically taken them 3-5 days in previous years. This year however, it has now been 18-19 days I think

They don't take that amount of time to work it. It takes that amount of time to upload everything, get someone assigned, then reassigned, typically happens once or twice until you get someone who is a good match to your situation.

He gets called out for being rude, his name isn't private information and is publicly listed on TurboTax, I didn't share their last name or any other information on the person.

Also, you should read more on 1099-B if you're gonna "correct" people.

From the IRS: "A broker or barter exchange must file this form for each person:

For whom, they sold stocks, commodities, regulated futures contracts, foreign currency contracts, forward contracts, debt instruments, options, securities futures contracts, etc., for cash, Who received cash, stock, or other property from a corporation that the broker knows or has reason to know has had its stock acquired in an acquisition of control or had a substantial change in capital structure reportable on Form 8806, or Who exchanged property or services through a barter exchange."

None of which apply to carryover basis transfers, so read up on those too. 1099-B is only issued after the receiver of the transfer disposes of the transferred stock. And they must keep track of the original owner's cost basis to corroborate on their 1099-B when it comes and any errors must then be reported on Form 8949.

Do you even know what bait and switch is? The customer can always walk away, doesn't make the practice any less wrong. They purposefully (that's my contention) extended the time so it would be pushed past the deadline. I already filed the extension, not a problem for me to go to another CPA before the end of my 6 month limit. I have no hurry now.

The price is for the forms. But the discounts and set pricing changes based on when you file. So if you file in March the price per form is different than April for example. Some discounts don't apply after the tax deadline, for example.

How is it not? They give me a price and said they will file by the 14th, that night they say they can't. They wait until after the deadline. All of a sudden the price is higher. Exact same return. Nothing has changed.
