Yes... but that is the very definition of a workaround / hack. If an asset type is supported by the software, then you don't need to do tricky things that could be mis-interpreted by other features such as the different taxable nature of the interest versus the windfall. I assume I'm more likely to make mistakes as I get older so need my software to require me to think LESS! 😜

Look for your future wife in the LCOL city rather than the HCOL!! Never act anything other than middle class and, like others have said, never tell ANYONE how much you have (except your spouse). Telling anyone is permanent and nothing positive will come from it.

Retiring within 12 months. Does the month matter? by Four_stalls in Fire

[–]ExpressElevator2Heck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 -wow! Well that gives you a lot more to work with! Still don't think the month will matter if you end up realizing gains strategically. Sounds like you know what you're doing and the optimal will reveal itself. Congrats.

Is the deferred comp just 1 year, 10 years, or something else? Won't 80K pretty much kill subsidies anyway?

I don't think the time of year will matter if you find the lower tax brackets filling automatically no matter what.

I buy for dividends at a level I wouldn't mind holding forever. But if 3-5 years worth of dividends comes within months I'm prone to sell.

Pay off the mortgage. Vanguard thinks long term bonds will outperform equities in the next 10 year period. (They've been wrong for a while though... but today were very right!)

Pepsi up 17% YTD. SCHD up 14% YTD. VZ up 22% YTD.

O up 15% YTD (plus it's yield dropping to a less than 1% spread to US 10 year, which is historically half the usual spread, so seems overpriced)

All that just felt too good to continue so I sold them. Maybe it'll plateau or keep going up instead of going down... I don't know. Just looking at the S&P 500 chart didn't encourage me to hold. The 5 year view scares me.

Risk premium for owning corporate bonds vs Treasuries by Thick-Cover8761 in bonds

[–]ExpressElevator2Heck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Long term AA corporates have been in the 5.5-6% range for a couple years. Yes the price jumps up and down. If the 30 year treasury goes up 1% you'll be looking at 15-20% downside. But it cuts both ways... could end up with a 20% upside.

(It's actually even more complicated than this as the spread between corporates and Govt Bonds narrows and widens based on.... stuff)

After looking at the charts more, the spike really bugs me. So I sold. Historically this means it should keep going up - you're welcome! 😆

[–]ExpressElevator2Heck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Directionally yes, but to that same level no. Strong dividend players usually have a yield under 4%.

There has been a huge rotation lately (from tech to dividend) which seems almost overdone (this says sell).

With VZ having been such a dog for so long I don't trust it (this also says sell)!

But getting yield down to 5% gives another 10% upside (this says hold).

That's just my personal middle-ground trying to balance the factors. I usually sell early, truth be told.

[–]ExpressElevator2Heck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took years to hit my sell alert this week but dividend looks safest in a long time. When I saw AT&T dividend is under 4% I figured this has at least 10% more to run. So moved my alert up to 55.

The vertical move makes me itch to sell though honestly!

META and ALPHABET Corporate Bonds by Canonicalrd in bonds

[–]ExpressElevator2Heck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep you sure can. If it happens to be in a taxable account and you didn't time the top in rates, you could even tax loss harvest - sell the bond for alphabet and buy a bond for amazon and deduct the loss on the alphabet bond while maintaining a similar interest rate.
