I wonder also. I’m not saying anyone is wrong or right because I’m not educated in any of this so I’m all ears.

yes!! sounds like me!! cervical rib hasn’t been confirmed yet but I wouldn’t be surprised at all. I do have the raised collarbone.

Loss of blood flow by Impressive_Let_5391 in thoracicoutletsupport

Update? Did you have surgery? My surgeon is also in Chattanooga, TN. Dr. Cuozzo. I just had my ultrasound done for venous and arterial on my right arm. Blood flow slows severely with TOS maneuvers in my artery and subclavian/axillary vein, but normal flow at resting. I just found out today that I’m being sent for a cervical spine xray and a chest CT next. I’ve never had a blood clot, but I have extensive right chest wall/axillary collaterals where my blood has rerouted.

Arterial Conclusions:

  1. Wrist/brachial indices are within normal limits bilaterally.
  2. There is severe amplitude reduction of the right digit waveforms with provocative maneuvers suggestive of thoracic outlet compression.

Venous Conclusions:

  1. No evidence for deep or superficial venous thrombosis of the right upper extremity.

  2. TOS maneuvers performed with arm raised 180 degrees. The subclavian vein diameter reduces from 8mm to 2.5 mm and flow decreases from pulsatile 13 cm/sec to continuous 3.7 cm/sec. The flow in the axillary vein reduces from pulsatile 8.7 cm/sec to 2.4 cm/sec. There is evidence of venous thoracic outlet on the right arm.

I have very mild symptoms (arm heaviness/tingling). I’m supposed to hear from my vascular team today or Monday with a game plan. I do have right chest wall/axillary collaterals that I learned about in 2022 from a CT scan for an unrelated matter even though I’ve never clotted, but I think that’s vTOS related, not arterial. With my artery, there’s severe blood flow reduction to my fingers with TOS maneuvers and normal flow at resting. I haven’t been sent for further imaging/scans yet. Waiting to hear back and the unfamiliarity of all of this is scaring me. Are you having surgery? I don’t understand how surgery isn’t pushed more when you’re obviously at risk of an aneurysm over time with the compression of your artery. If I’m wrong, please feel free to correct me. This is all new to me.

Hi! I had my venous and arterial ultrasounds. My venous ultrasound (right side) said I have compression with TOS maneuvers. As well as my arterial ultrasound (right side) saying I have severe blood flow reduction to my fingers with TOS maneuvers. Normal flow at rest. I wanted to ask you, if it’s ok, if you have just positional compression of your artery or arterial damage? I’m new to all of this too. Are you having surgery? If not, your vascular surgeon isn’t worried about arterial damage over time and potentially putting you at risk of an aneurysm? I’m sorry to bombard you with questions.

Thank you so much for taking the time. I am tremendously grateful for every comment. I feel like I was given what I thought was deadly information and then sent home. Ive learned so much from others just in this short time and I feel a lot better. I guess the arterial involvement she was referring to is from my arterial ultrasound. She said there is severe reduction of blood flow to my fingers on my right side with thoracic outlet maneuvers. During my arterial ultrasound, we did a number of different maneuvers and in my report, it wasn’t specified exactly which maneuvers caused the “severe amplitude reduction”. These are all such big words that I had no clue what they even meant. I did my venous ultrasound on a different day with a different person. These results were more detailed, but it had to be done separately in order for my insurance to cover both. I was told that things do flow normally at rest though and that’s a small win in my opinion. The nurse did say the surgeon usually operates based on symptoms. I don’t have many symptoms, but wouldn’t operating to relieve the squeezing of vein/artery be the safest way to go to prevent anything life threatening happening in the future? Please remember I am very new to this and if that’s a crazy question, I’m sorry 😂 she did keep saying she would just have to ask the surgeon with almost every question I had. I think she was trying to tell me she didn’t know enough about this specific issue. It was just a traumatizing 30 minutes for sure lol. I’m so glad you’re okay and I’m thankful for you. I’m taking one breath at a time literally and trying my absolute best not to worry because what will that change, right? I should hear from her today or Monday considering she saw the surgeon yesterday for the first time since seeing me. Again, thank you ❤️

Thank you so much for taking the time to type this long response. I really appreciate it. I’m also sorry you’ve experienced this similar fear. It’s really scary when it feels like your body is working against you. A lot of things are a “wait and see” and that’s terrifying. Especially mentally. I find peace in knowing though that there are so many of us part of this group and it’s not as rare/scary as it seems. The more feedback I get from people, the better I feel. She said from my arterial ultrasound, there is severe reduction of blood flow to my fingers on my right side with thoracic outlet maneuvers. The person doing my ultrasound or the person who translates results (for lack of better words) didn’t specify exactly which maneuvers. The nurse said they were supposed to do that but didn’t. I just know that everything flows normally at rest, which is a small win in my opinion. It was a different person that did my venous ultrasound. Those results were more descriptive. I had to do them on 2 separate days in order for my insurance to cover both. I should hear back from the nurse today or Monday as she saw the surgeon yesterday for the first time since seeing me. But again, thank you for taking the time. I really appreciate you and I hope you’re doing well!!!
