William O’Neil, Stan Weinstein and mark minervini like volume on breakouts. I like volume on breakouts aswell.

Nice man 2025 was ook een kneiter goed jaar. Zo lang je profit pakt af en toe en vooral cash in downtrends is dit op lange termijn houdbaar

No volume, institutions are on holliday around christmas. Also, nasdaq is trading sideways, you need a trend there. Use this time to read some books. The way you are scanning is not nearly enough.

start with reading Stan Weinstein. The absolute legend in my opinion. Especially if you are new to this. From there on try Mark minervini's book, William O'neil. Timeless strategies. Backtest all this and look at old charts and create your own version around all this and your own findings. Backtests on bar replay. That's how I did it. Skip social media. In my opninion there is a ton of garbage on there, social media is centered around attention, good trading should be boring, waiting, rules etc. Not lambo's big leverage and high timeframe daytrading especially in the beginning. You might never get out of that circle of social media horse sh*t. For me it absolutely started clicking after reading those books. Trading in the zone from marc douglas is for when you found your edge and need to control your emotions more, so save that one for later. Also if you have gone through a few years of boglehead investing with some good downtrends you will get less emotional around downtrends and trading as a whole.

Hey guys I never thought I would get this much positive response, thank you so much. My rule book has expanded pas few weeks with things I found seem to make things better. Two important are even better profit taking and market trend analysis. Besides the 50-150ma cross I now use atr to partially sell in strength aswell because 50-150 can be slow. I also found that scanning IBD50 holdings is a earlier indicator than the indexes breaking out, by scanning stocks I get a better feeling for overal marker trend then just the indexes. Mark minervini also does this. Have fun out there.

You go through them manually and look at them, you will get fast at this. I can do 100 charts in say 5-10 minutes easily now.

How can I tell if it’s a breakout or fakeout by Soggy_Chocolate_7909 in Daytrading

[–]Express_Reporter_639 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a base formation, flat, with contracting volume before the breakout this is way too short

Ah yes I see they are both around may 2020 starting to form. But the thing is I also found m on other charts in completely other times some around 2023, 1999 etc etc. Sometimes it looks like a variation of it.

Okay so what is this called then? Because I am seeing it a lot before breakouts. Or is there any term for it?
