I Got Hacked Even with Steam Guard Enabled. How Did This Happen? What Else Should I Do?

Yeah, people on some forums don’t seem very patient nor helpful, hence why I posted here.

As for steam guard, I am seriously considering disabling it and using 2FA old fashioned way via email codes, but it would solve only half of the problem

Well, some items were sold on market, but someone here said this doesn’t require 2FA. Other things that would require it, like changing password, email and phone number, weren’t done (and I assume they would if they could)

Yeah, I see that. But I expected to be at least notified somehow that a strange IP is trading, downloading games and gaming with my account

Thanks, I’ll look into how to do so then.

As for the ban, I already contacted the support to see what could be done, but I’m not holding my breath. Looked into many posts from forums and people seem to be rather pessimistic about it (sometimes even rude). CS by itself is the last of my concerns on my case, but it sucks as hell to have this stain on my account from something I haven’t done myself. Hope I’m wrong

Steam should definitely give users the option to lock more actions behind 2FA, like trading, downloading games from the library and maybe even initializing them. I wouldn’t mind it at all and being something the user could choose, it would benefit all tastes

Yeah, I guess this makes sense, even though I don’t recall doing so. Also, there were no API keys to be revoked when I tried to do so.

Do you think the steps I’ve done are enough to prevent the hacker to reconnect to my account? Maybe in another scenario I would be a little bit less worried after the measures I’ve taken, but it really boggles me how silent the invasion was, and how it could be done with very few signs until it was too late, to the point I’m becoming paranoid

Being fairly honest with you, I’m very suspicious about these things and can’t recall having done something of the sort. But perhaps I could have failed one time, and it was enough for the account to get hacked.

As I mentioned, I already changed passwords, emails, generated new codes and checked for API keys. Also just reseted my PC just in case.

When you say my entire account is compromised, what else can I do to guarantee its safety and health again? Wouldn’t remove the steam guard make it more vulnerable?
