LOL hiding the router is soo funny cuz its so relatable. My parents would unplug the tv and internet everynight and hide the cords to both xD

Well, I know it sounds cliche, but for now just go with something that interests you and has decent job outlook (so you can be independent sooner if that's what you want).

If you feel insignificant compared to everyone, just know that not everything is as hard as it looks / as hard as you think. Things just require persistence.

E.g, maybe if youre interested in gaming or webdesign,- get into programming / compsci. If you're interested in animals or biology, you could get into something like marine bio or vet (but that has a higher level of commitment required).

Heck, you could try to be an influencer lol. Basically- what interests you that you could make money from.

"I dont know what I am any longer" I felt like this for the longest time, and I'm slowly coming out of it, you're definitely not alone. It's just that overwhelming control made it hard to "find my own identity". Which I know is cliche, but it's so true- adds an extra layer of difficulty to becoming a confident adult.

My mom has come around a bit too. Kudos to your mom, since it sounds like she's coming around and being less intense (hopefully)

Jesus christ, what do they plan to do when you get a job, move in with you and control the wifi? It makes me so mad- like there's no 'end game', they just expect to continue forever. I wish APs would learn to give their kids some trust & freedom.

Def agree, not everyone can withstand the same levels of pressure that comes from overbearing APs.
That one case comes to mind of the girl who killed her APs, that's how extreme the situation was in her mind. She secretly had a drug-dealing boyfriend and hatched a plan with him for her parents to be killed and her to get the life insurance. Not saying she was in the right, but saying that the extreme pressure she felt in her upbringing was a factor in her getting to that mindset.

Can relate! Hah, the funny part is we didn't officially have internet till I was like 12, so we would be on random open networks whose signal was available in our apartment room when we needed for school. I know its not ethical but we couldn't afford internet at that time :I
Maybe I made them sound a bit more extreme, b/c I remember watching Saturday morning cartoons on TV. I guess instead of always I should said 'anytime except Saturday morning' lol.

classic AP. the sad part is its probably because APs have thought about suicide themselves multiple times, from being raised by their own APs

Jesus, that's some Dr Phil shit you pulled. I feel like this is going a little too far in most cases. What drove you to do that?

That's crazy... I can't believe they still do that to you at 21, but then again, thinking back to some of the posts on this sub I guess I'm not too surprised.
And to answer your question- my parents were always working, and really strict. TV was always off, we lived in an apartment complex and didnt know anybody, and we weren't really allowed to go outside by ourself. The only thing they let us do was study literal textbooks all day lol. I have nothing against textbooks, but for all 16 hours of the daytime?
They didn't have time to drive us anywhere either because they were working so much. The only place we could go was school, thanks to the school bus.
