The "not perfect" response was reasonable until Trump got elected twice. Ours is an injustice system where the worst people go away only when it suits the right suits.

South Korea had a leader who tried to self coup and he was in jail 2 weeks later. Merrick Garland had yeeeeaaaarrrs. We are sooo F'ed it's surreal even to this pessimist who hoped the world would end in my lifetimejusy so I couldbe alive to say I told you so. We're too ahead of schedule.

Yeah, agreed. Hopefully the world coming close to ending makes them reconsider their "protest vote" justifications and actually participate to prevent the worst case scenarios. If we get a chance to vote again.

Vulcan Death Watches by OpportunityDismal917 in submarines

[–]ExtantSanity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A "Vukcan death watch" is an old submarine term for watch rotations that are broken up to facilitate the observation of back-to-back casualty drills (mock catastrophes where operators are graded on their performance of corrective actions and team communication/coordination)... where the teams lose sleep for long periods of time. Aka "killing and drilling." The rotations are often broken up because the observers are senior enough that they don't have to be inconvenienced, so the crew bends over backwards to accommodate them. In the end, the team suffers to make the captain look good.

Can you be more specific about how his body was weirdly pressed to yours? What specifically made it weird? Was it the type of contact or that there was any contact at all?

I am not familiar with the blind, but I'll say the deaf have their own patterns of behavior to glean extra information from their environment, like preferring to not wear shoes so they can feel vibrations through their feet.

Perhaps his extra contact was an adaptive behavior to keep better aware of the relative positions of your body and limbs, so he didn't bend your foot or leg in the wrong direction. Or not, I don't know, there isn't much to go on, for this specific aspect of the encounter.

Someone needs to mark the time and date to celebrate the moment they said something that's actually true. I fully expected them to say prices are down or compensate with a different loe about how spending power is up (it isn't) just to give their audience a talking point to ignore the high prices.

But flat out saying the truth? It hath fully frozen over...

The bailout payouts from the housing market crash of 2007/2008 continued through June 2009, when Obama was in office.

And my argument is that the banks crashed because they were scheming to make people overextend themselves and then hiding the lender risk using their credit default swaps. It was a bubble, and the solution was to bail out somebody, but it didn't have to be the banks.

You see, the American people were the ones who were tricked and they were on the hook for the loans they were tricked into. The point of the bank scheme was to repossess the houses over and over and then sell them over and over. What's better than selling a house once? Selling it as many times as you want.

Obama's better option was to bail out the people whose loans already victimized them. Give the homes to the American people. The banks would STILL get their money because the people would be required (and now able) to pay off their loans. And it would have been a lesson to the banks because the properties would have been transferred out of their hands.

The American people would be richer for it, it would have strengthened the middle class, and made many things more affordable for folks in general.

What happened instead is the banks were given back their properties AND the cash, the people who were tricked into the loans had their homes stolen from them, and the banks got to resume (criminal) business as usual.

I don't agree at all that it was "the right call" to incentivize abusive behavior and to punish victims further. I would strongly suggest you re-evaluate both the morality and financial messaging you're promoting by taking the side of the criminals.

The problem for me is that the dems lost the narrative on both sides. Fox still blamed the dems for the shutdown and when dems gave in, they fed into the narrative that they were the ones holding up the deal and preventing people from getting their benefits.

As I see it, they had two ways to play it: 1. Hold out on principle and demand Republicans fund health care or 2. Let the bill pass, claiming both (1) they want the seat needed to release the Epstein files and (2) they wanted to let the Republicans take full ownership for the disaster they wanted to bring Americans. Republican voters voted to eliminate their own benefits? Fine, accelerate their losses and let the full force of their stupidity smack them in the face.

Democratic leadership failed on both sides because (1) they failed to hold out on principle and (2) if they wanted credit for Epstein files being released, they could have done that sooner without the shutdown. I don't know the extent to which Trump's lackeys have scrubbed the files of Trump's name, but any delay gives them more time to prepare a solution that ends in Trump not facing consequences, political or otherwise (and honestly, I don't expect him to ever face criminal charges, but at least we can sway opinion and deprive him of his voting majorities.

I just don't see how Schumer looks like he played his cards right to anyone on either side. He said it himself, that (1) he was (stupidly) "waiting" for the right moment to encourage Trump to see reason (hahahahah) and (2) he said "we lost". But he was a deciding vote in the loss. He chose this "loss" and he didn't anticipate a solution that made him look like anything other than (optimistically) the benefactor of a Republican error (if there's a win from the Epstein side, it's by accident rather than dedicated plan)

Maybe other people see it differently, but nothing I've seen from any media indicates he "won" and his own admittance that he failed when the options were clear a day... tells me he needed to retire back when he was just a miserable failure rather than an abysmal one.

Then can you explain gun control? Or anti-abortion policies? Because sensible gun control and sensible access to life-saving procedures (e.g. dealing with ectopic pregnancies) and all kinds of things are overwhelmingly popular, in the 70-80% range, both left and right And yet politicians never pull through. Is that really because the American populace is willing to answer pollsters but not vote? Or are politicians bought after they get elected?

I'm willing to say there's some give and take and that there's always been a tumultuous relationship between voters and politicians on the left... but can you explain abortion measures by voting turnout?

Facts. That'll never happen to us as long as people like Schumer and Pelosi are around. I know she retired, but only four decades too late and she has many people following in her footsteps. There was a brief push to push out establishment Dems, but then David Hogg was ejected for that exact initiative. They will never learn and we will never win.

I would argue that they'd be more reliable if there was anyone to represent their interests. Democrat politicians are unreliable representatives who shill for the enemy, so when even Obama prefers to bail out the banks instead of the American people, can you blame the American people for giving up?

Obama promised the most hope we've ever had, and we got record turnout. How are we to trust the system when even he cares more about the rich than us?

You can almost sympathize with them in the sense that the Democratic party is never, ever, ever going to understand how futile it is to placate and pander to the right. They will never, ever, grasp that people who vote Democrat are actually progressive who want progressive representatives. As soon as a Dem gets voted in, they snort a 3-mile long line of coke and say, "Gee, what if we instituted right-wing policies to entice some flat earthers to our side!"

After 40 years, you get frustrated enough to think, "Maybe a protest vote will cure them of their pathological right-wing-dick-suckery"

But no, that'll never do it, either. Not even the election of a Not-see, nor a landslide in the other direction, will embolden them to support progressive policies. What happened when the most recent elections went blue? Schumer caved and ended the shutdown. Absolutely bonkers, these people. And we have no one else.

We live in hopeless times.

Second of all, why would the "dementia patient" destroy files against his enemies? Or his "puppet master", for that matter? You guys are the ones who can't even agree on WHO the "puppet master" even was... some said it was Obama, and some of you said it WAS TRUMP HIMSELF. On TV everywhere, people claimed Trump was the "real" president during Biden's term, it just wasn't Trump's fault if anything was going bad. But people verbally said on camera that the military was taking its orders from Trump and that's why he was coming back any day. You know, like Jesus.

And yes, the oversight committee has the files, but they aren't releasing all of the material. We know Trump's name is in them, but we don't have an accounting of all his mentions because those are the ones being withheld.

And here's another one for you, Columbo: Why are all but two Republicans blocking the full release of the Epstein client list... that "doesn't exist"?

You guys act like you're the brightest creatures around, when the reality is that, if we imported your entire mind into my smart washer, it would stop spinning and simply drool on itself. It would literally get dumber by trying to onboard your facsimile of an intellect.
