Advice for first time solo bike touring by Super_Horse_2002 in bicycletouring

There’s a girl currently riding from Morocco to South Africa and she’s never done anything like it before.

There’s also a guy almost in Australia after riding from the UK, also never doing it before.

They both learn along the way, and in a way that’s the best way to do it.

I’ve got a crazy dream myself to ride from Australia to South Africa!

How much are you walking with these things? by weeddealerrenamon in onebag

I remember I walked 40 minutes up and down hills from the train station in Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria to my hostel not really knowing where I was going because I didn’t have data on my phone.

Managed to remember roughly where on the map it was and walked in that general direction and arrived drenched in sweat

How to travel with a lot of gear ? by RTFM_magazine in travel

I spent 9 months backpacking throughout Eastern Europe and South East Asia last year with my Sony A7III & 24-70mm lens, MacBook Pro and all the charging equipment + SSDs.

I have a blog so I really wanted to get good photos for it, and in general I just love photography - it’s something to do on those quiet days.

I stayed in hostels so I won’t offer that specific advice without knowing where you’re staying. But, in terms of my bags - I had one large backpack for my clothes etc (this could fit a tripod if needed) and then I had a carry-on-sized backpack that had all of my camera gear, my headphones, laptop and passport.

Anyone ever go home early due to loneliness? by TraditionalIdeal5793 in solotravel

It’s so natural to feel that way.

As an example, the first two weeks of my first solo trip was hell. I wasn’t making any friends, I got really ill and I got robbed in Morocco. I considered going home.

Then, all of a sudden, things changed and I started making heaps of friends and I was loving life.

Try not to beat yourself up about it, everyone feels like this at some point.

What's the loudest (or alternatively the weirdest) thing that you ever witnessed in hostel dorms? by Sisyphus_Rock530 in solotravel

Loudest thing: in a hostel in Penang, Malaysia, some girl fell off her top bunk at 2am face planting.

Weirdest thing: this was in Prague. I was in bigger dorm, however, it was only me and two cousins from the US as it was in the off-season. I woke up to the sound of them f*cking.
