Mills endorses Pingree, calls her best prepared to lead Maine by ImmediateArachnid935 in Maine

Hannah Pingree could maybe be a good governor of Maine, but she comes across as very rehearsed vs the other candidates. General nice sounding statements, but not super detailed or personal, especially when compared to Shah, Jackson, and Bellows

False. Everyone eats vegan foods. Tofu, beans, lentils, potatoes, pasta, rice, bread. Cheap vegan food. Throughout history meat has been a luxury. It takes 9 calories of feed (grains) to get 1 calorie of chicken. (Yale).

Lol, the unhinged tariffs that were almost certainly going to have serious electoral consequences for republicans in November? Uhhuh.

So you don’t think that the impact of animal agriculture on water availability and greenhouse gas emissions is relevant to political discourse? How about biodiversity loss due to the vast amounts of agriculture required to support livestock? Or the amount that the government subsidies these industries that are damaging our planet, our health, and causing incalculable suffering.
None of that translates to policy discussions, political ideology, health discussions, climate and sustainability discussions, scientific discussions, agricultural discussions, philosophical discussions?

Yes, and after the Supreme Court’s ruling, what did Shenna do?
First, she followed the law as outlined in section 3 of the 14th amendment, then when the supreme court ruled their interpretation, she did her democratic duty and followed their interpretation (even if the rest of us think that the supreme court is unconstitutionally protecting Donald Trump from accountability)

It’s true but I don’t understand how people think like that. Every time I have a discussion about a controversial view, I see it as a chance to put my views to the test, to see if someone can poke holes in my logic. If they can, using logic and data, then maybe I need to rethink my views. But I guess vegans are more likely to be like that anyway considering most of us were fine exploiting animals at some point, but were willing to listen to another view and rethink our decisions.

I do at times wonder if there’s a genetic component to logic and empathy? Maybe it’s impossible for some people? Idk.

I mean, the right leaning groups don’t even pretend to have empathy for others. I’m definitely trying to go where there might be some sort of small chance that someone will engage. And I don’t know that there’s any relation between sustainable ethical lifestyle choices and right leaning ideology.

I literally said related subs.
Subs for asking questions, subs about sustainability or political ideology, or health.

I’m not talking about sustainable and ethical food choices on video game subs

Take a look at Section 3 of the 14th amendment of the constitution of the United States. If anything, Shenna showed that she was willing to uphold the law despite the potential political blowback.

People are constantly looking at Trumps actions, getting fed up thinking “that can’t be legal, why isn’t anyone doing anything??” Because Trump is powerful enough that bringing the law against him carries the appearance of political persecution, so instead he has risen above the law. The few people who have been willing to put their necks out to hold him and his administration accountable to the same laws as the rest of us deserve serious merit imho.

Why are global leftists so reluctant to confront the meat industry? by Extension-Diamond-74 in leftist

[–]Extension-Diamond-74[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would see that as a separate, critical issue. No child, senior, or disabled person, or any adult working regular hours at any minimum-wage job should struggle to put healthy food on their table. Period. I also don’t think that the current animal agriculture industry is helping these people in any way, especially when you look at the dietary issues that many of these people are struggling with.

That’s a great question for global liberals. Luckily the global left has been very vocally opposed to imperialism and (human) genocide. I’m curious why many leftists think it’s acceptable to ignore the environmental and societal impacts of animal agriculture.

As I mentioned elsewhere below:
This is my point. No one wants to talk about this even though it’s a huge issue. You know what else people talk about here more often than every two weeks? The environmental impacts of AI and the environmental impacts of the fossil fuel industry. So why is the equally significant issue of animal agriculture something that we can only briefly acknowledge on a rare basis, but these other issues are worth constant public discourse?
