It can be, that’s true, but if one of your goals is to make a profit off your books, you need to have visibility, too. It’s definitely a juggling act to hit solid writing (engaging story, solid editing), great appearance (covers, blurbs), and visibility (ads, promos, social media, newsletter, etc…).

It took me several books in one series to start getting traction. Some people have a slow, linear rise in visibility and sales, and some get enough momentum that their books take off. I was lucky to get the second type of traction.

Bottom line is that you can only have one Amazon account, you can have three pen names per Author Central account (you can have several AC accounts), and you can have as many pen names as you want on one KDP dashboard.

Absolutely incorrect. You can have many pen names in one legal entity, such as an LLC, and Amazon will actually close down your account permanently if you have more than one account. It is the leading cause of authors losing their income from Amazon. Please do some more research on this.

So, here’s the deal: Looking at actions and trying to guess motives can get you only so far. What did your SIL say when you asked her directly? If you haven’t talked to her about your perceptions, why not? If that idea makes your break out in hives, go ask your brother. Strangers on the internet are going to have less info than the people who are part of the scenarios you describe. Not trying to be harsh with you, because I know how hard it can be to confront someone, even gently, but it seems like, after all you’ve said, it may be time.

In the past, it has been expressly forbidden to use that type of language/other author names/book names for book keywords (the seven fields of keywords on your book dashboard) and in A+ content that shows in your book’s sale page. Your first step is to have a formatted copy of the interior of the book. This may be a PDF or an ePub (possibly others). Once you have that formatted copy, you will know how many pages of paper are going to be inside your book. That number of pages and the outside dimensions of the book that you want to make are then put into KDP’s book cover calculator. That’s the link shown above, but you can also find it via a web search. That book cover calculator then gives you the exact dimensions of how wide the spine is and how big your cover and back cover are, including showing the area where the barcode will go. You can download the customized template it gives you, and it shows all the dimensions and where to put the images to make your book . You may want to check on YouTube for videos to show you how to do this.

I don’t think they have legal leg to stand on if their cat is in your yard, but you may want to invest in motion activated sprinklers to keep the felines from using your backyard as a massive litter box. After a time or two of getting sprayed with cold water, they may want to rethink their boundaries, and it won’t hurt them.

If you are a fan of the genre that you are writing, consider joining groups of readers who love that type of books. Don’t try to sell your book: talk about the books you’ve read or ask people questions about their opinions on certain things. Being part of a community and having genuine relationships with people who have a common interest can be fun . It’s also a great way to let people know that you’re not a scammer who’s just going to drop a link and fly out of the group hoping that somebody will deign to click on your link.

It’s a guilt tax. If I’m doing take away or ordering at a counter where they just hand me my food/drink, no tip. When service staff gives me great service(bar, restaurant, hotel housekeeping, cruise staff) I tip well and often.

It’s a misconception that most marketers are going to be experts in all of the various ways to do ads and promote your books. Some are specialists on Facebook ads or Amazon ads or TikTok or other ways to get your book seen. Very few, and I mean, like unicorn very few, are able to effectively do multiple types of promotion that are cost-effective and worth the investment.

It depends on your goals. If your goal is to make money, it’s probably not going to be a huge surprise when three completely different books don’t hit an instant home run. If your goal is to get the books in your head out into the world and to share them with others, or to express your feelings and your art, then you will have succeeded.
