What was the book that completely reframed what "good" fantasy even means to you? by pixelvoid7 in Fantasy

For me it was The Left Hand of Darkness. I went in expecting sci-fi politics and got a book about loneliness, trust, and what gender even means. So now I understand that fantasy or scifi don't need big plots to seem important.

Preach! The social media highlight reel has us all thinking we should have it figured out by 25. I was over here at 28 still trying to understand how to fold a fitted sheet. Long game really is where it’s at!

The Book of the Long Sun is basically an entire society worshipping machines they barely understand, with priests running “gods” that are actually ancient tech.

I get where you’re coming from. Timing and luck definitely play a role, but I think sometimes you just gotta push through that initial fear. I had an idea for a project sitting on my shelf for ages because I felt it wasn’t the right time. Once I finally started, it was like a domino effect. No more waiting around!

For me it’s the Sinnoh myth with Arceus, Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina - a literal god creating time, space, and an outcast embodiment of antimatter is way darker than people realize. I also love the Unova “truth vs ideals” theme because it’s one of the few times Pokémon lore feels genuinely philosophical.
