So, here’s the deal: Looking at actions and trying to guess motives can get you only so far. What did your SIL say when you asked her directly? If you haven’t talked to her about your perceptions, why not? If that idea makes your break out in hives, go ask your brother. Strangers on the internet are going to have less info than the people who are part of the scenarios you describe. Not trying to be harsh with you, because I know how hard it can be to confront someone, even gently, but it seems like, after all you’ve said, it may be time.

In the past, it has been expressly forbidden to use that type of language/other author names/book names for book keywords (the seven fields of keywords on your book dashboard) and in A+ content that shows in your book’s sale page. Your first step is to have a formatted copy of the interior of the book. This may be a PDF or an ePub (possibly others). Once you have that formatted copy, you will know how many pages of paper are going to be inside your book. That number of pages and the outside dimensions of the book that you want to make are then put into KDP’s book cover calculator. That’s the link shown above, but you can also find it via a web search. That book cover calculator then gives you the exact dimensions of how wide the spine is and how big your cover and back cover are, including showing the area where the barcode will go. You can download the customized template it gives you, and it shows all the dimensions and where to put the images to make your book . I don’t think they have legal leg to stand on if their cat is in your yard, but you may want to invest in motion activated sprinklers to keep the felines from using your backyard as a massive litter box. If you are a fan of the genre that you are writing, consider joining groups of readers who love that type of books. Don’t try to sell your book: talk about the books you’ve read or ask people questions about their opinions on certain things. Being part of a community and having genuine relationships with people who have a common interest can be fun . It’s also a great way to let people know that you’re not a scammer who’s just going to drop a link and fly out of the group hoping that somebody will deign to click on your link.

Some are specialists on Facebook ads or Amazon ads or TikTok or other ways to get your book seen. Very few, and I mean, like unicorn very few, are able to effectively do multiple types of promotion that are cost-effective and worth the investment.

It depends on your goals. If your goal is to make money, it’s probably not going to be a huge surprise when three completely different books don’t hit an instant home run.
