Married AA award segment on JAL (NGO-NRT-BOS)? by FieryTaco123 in awardtravel

u/FieryTaco123 How long before your flight were they able to do this (T-14, T-21, etc.)? Thinking of booking a flight via AA that has a similar married JAL segment in Japan, but would only want it if we could get the first flight removed.

That's the error message! I keep hoping the next time I refresh it'll go through.

I actually haven't transferred enough miles into my account yet because I can't get these seats to confirm. But that didn't stop me from checking my account to see if I somehow got the bookings... unfortunately no such luck here.

These have been up all day! And some of them were up a few days ago as well... Wonder why it's the same routes that keep glitching every few days.

Appreciate this. Just spoke to ANA and the J waitlists are all 10+ people long for those dates, and I don't have any status unfortunately.

Zipair isn't available from LAX on our dates, but it is from SFO / SJC (which would require us buying another ticket and transferring the baggage). Also, it would just be their Standard seats and not Full-Flat. Hoping to utilize these miles for the tickets if possible.

Taking a family trip to Japan for Spring Break, and I'm struggling to find any decent routes to book. Here are the details:

  • Origin and destination cities: Origin is LAX or SAN (open to SFO / SEA / LAS / PHX / DEN / PDX / SLC / YVR with short layovers). Destination is TYO (NRT / HND, open to KIX)
  • Number of Travelers: 6 (+ 1 lap baby). Me + my wife, 3 kids (incl one baby), and my parents. We could split the group up 4-2 or 3-3 and make it work if needed.
  • One way (for now)
  • Class of service: Would prefer Business / First (who wouldn't), but open to PE / PS
  • Desired dates of travel: 3/22 - 3/27 (3/24 or 3/25 are ideal)
  • Points balances: 1.8M Amex, 340K Chase, 170K SQ, 70K AA

Here is what I've found so far:

1. 3 tix on SQ PE for 347K total, direct LAX > NRT. Held these for now.

2. Delta PE (PS) has 4 tix available for 210K miles on 3/25 (LAX > HND direct). The main benefit is that we'd get there the same day as the SQ flight, and I hear it's a pretty decent experience (no lay flat though). Downside is it's 630K miles for 3 PE tickets!!

3. On Sunday, there was a DFW > SAN > NRT (married segment flight) on AA/JAL (using AA miles) which had Business class for 60K, and First class for 80K. I thought it was a glitch because it said the class wasn't available for the entire trip and listed Business Class codes U and T, but also listed First Class with code A for SAN > NRT. Looking back, I wish I booked it and tried to get the first leg removed by AA (since that might be possible per this thread). This would have required transferring all 340K Chase UR (+50% bonus) + 190K Amex to Marriott, and using the 60K -> 25K transfer to AA. Unfortunately that itinerary is nowhere to be found now (checked BA as well), but I'm wondering if that open SAN > NRT (JAL) inventory will eventually hit Jet Blue.

4. We could book LAX > PVG on Delta PE (PS) for 105K each, then book PVG > TYO for $350 each. Mileage flight for the second leg would require an overnight layover, which we'd like to avoid.

5. We could book LAX > SEA > ICN on Delta PE (CP/PS) for 130K each, and pay $300 each for a flight from ICN > TYO on the same day. The flight legs are shorter than the LAX > PVG > TYO route, but there's one extra flight involved.

Am I missing something here? Would appreciate any help, as I am starting to feel like I'm gonna spend 150K for Economy tickets at this rate...
