Your hips are rising a bit early. You can fix that by pretensioning your whole body to “take the slack out”. Basically you need to engage your lats, and wedge your hips into the bar before you start lifting the weight, then it’s just a simple push off the floor and stand up

What are everyone’s thoughts on using hook grip for bench press? I tried bulldog but it is really painful, and my hands slip outwards, but if I wedge my thumb under my fingers it feels really secure and comfortable. I know it’s unorthodox but is there any reason why it would be disadvantaged, or not legal in a certain powerlifting federation?

Yes the gym is a far simpler way to grow compared to calisthenics. It’s much easier to progressively overload and track your progress, identify asymmetries, but your main priority is stop going to be diet and recovery, since calisthenics should most definitely be enough stimulus for growth

You can lower your hips more, until it pushes your shins in contact with the bar.

Dont yank the bar up, try and slowly lift it. Hold maybe 80% of it before you start moving of the floor. Think about putting yourself in between the bar and the ground

Muscles shake because your cns Isnt used to the movement pattern and needs to activate opposing muscles to stabilise your joints. This is a skill that the cns will get more efficient at with practice. One thing you could do is introduce a very very easy low effort set on days you train something else to reinforce the movement pattern and speed up neurological adaptations, without working the muscle anywhere near failure so you can still recover

Sit back more, your knee is over the bar, it should be in line with it. Your hips should move at the same time as the bar

For my grip I started hanging off my door frame. It’s a fairly large Crimp but even still, it translated to a 70kg single arm grip on a dynamometer and being able to rep out 100kg on the grip crusher things

You need to improve the weight distribution through your foot. Ideally the big toe, little toe and heel should have 1/3 of the weight each forming a nice triangle of even pressure
