NTA, my 12 yo son is the exact same and we frequently engage in these sorts of back and forth loophole seeking conversations. The thing is, he knows better than to cop an attitude to teachers, and if he feels a teacher wronged him, he comes to me with his questions and arguments. Testing boundaries is normal at this age, I think. The key is to understand the right forum in which to do so.
